We stayed at the Angel for a long weekend, and the whole experience was excellent, from the welcome upon arrival to the warmth of the staff upon departure. Our room (19) was well appointed and very cosy. I would have preferred a nespresso machine to a cafetière, but other than that everything we needed was available. Good wifi. Breakfasts were good, service was excellent. We had one dinner at the hotel and one dinner at the Walnut tree, both excellent. We also did the wine tasting at the White Castle vineyard, all seamlessly arranged by the hotel, a fun and memorable experience. I'd especially like to mention the very professional and personable reception staff, and Patrick who served us at the bar and in the restaurant.

Disappointing Experience at The Angel Hotel, Abergavenny I have now dined at The Angel Hotel on three separate occasions over the years, and regrettably, each visit has seen a noticeable decline in both service and food quality. Despite having frequented the hotel and restaurant for over 10 years. I believe the hotel was acquired by POB Hotels in 2024, it appears that standards have deteriorated further. During my most recent visit, the service was particularly poor. Tables were frequently left uncleared, and despite several attempts to engage the staff, we experienced excessive delays before our order was taken. On one occasion, I asked a waitress about the details of a dish; she went to find out but never returned to provide an answer. Additionally, no bread was offered at the table, which is a basic expectation. More seriously, following this meal I experienced symptoms consistent with shellfish toxin-related food poisoning. The bill for 2 people at having lunch came to over £100. Really not worth it. I contacted the hotel to report this matter, and await a response. Having given The Angel Hotel multiple opportunities over time, I am disappointed to say that I will not be returning. I sincerely hope the management addresses these concerns to restore the reputation and standards expected of such an establishment.

Excellent food and service in the Oak room restaurant, paid the bill and left. Later that evening had a call from the hotel suggesting that we had not paid. Needed to send a photo of the receipt as our word was not accepted.

A wonderful weekend in Abergavenny. Location is ideal, just at the start of the pedestrianised area. Hotel car park can get full but there is a big public car park just across the road. We booked a superior room which was at the front of the hotel. it was well equipped and spacious although could have been better lit. Service from all staff we met was superb. Excellent breakfasts and great food at dinner.
