Fabulous hotel in a gorgeous building and setting in the lovely town of Amarante. This hotel was excellent in every way and we enjoyed our beautiful room, the delicious breakfasts and lunch, drinks in the bar and out on the terrace as well as the lovely grounds around the pool area. It was too cool to swim but we really enjoyed relaxing by the pool in the sun with a lovely bottle of wine. Attentive and very helpful staff. Highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Because of a tight itinerary, we could stay here only one night, which is not enough time to appreciate this property. It occupies a strategic, central site in the town. Located in front of the Ponte de Sao Goncalo with the Sao Goncalo Church on the other side of the bridge, its yellow facade and walls are eye-catching. We were in room 202, a large executive room with huge bed, walk in closet, safe, slippers, bathrobes, sofa, and bidet. Every aspect oozed five-star. The 7:30 breakfast was to die for. Bravo. Thank you, Teresa!

This hotel really lived up to its reputation. It’s elegant, wonderful staff, superb rooms (you must book a river view room), and you MUST EAT AT LARGO DO PALCO. Its a Michelin star restaurant, and It’s one of the main reasons we stayed there. We were astounded at the chefs creativity and the incredible flavors he was able to create with each course. AMAZING!!!! Go there for even one day like we did. You won’t be disappointed!!!

We had a delightful stay at this well appointed Relais Chateau hotel and we’re glad to get a table at their Michelin restaurant. The staff were all professional and hospitable. The only downside is departing back to the real world.

Casa da Calcada is one of the great hotels of the world. I do not exaggerate. We have been all over the world, North to South, East to West, in many years of traveling. Everything about the Casa da Calcada is outstanding. The location, the staff, the rooms, the restaurants. The staff were extraordinarily helpful. There are two restaurants, one with a Michelin star. Both are outstanding, simply magnificent. Our room overlooked the river and the city. Excellent view. It was very quiet. Everything worked perfectly, even the air conditioning dealing with 100+ F. All the staff were very helpful. They made tour recommendations for us which we followed and were very pleased with. They made a lunch reservation for us in a nearby restaurant which was fine. If we can go to one hotel again, this is it.

Run down at the heels; not up to five star standards. We just left the Intercontinental Porto today (which was amazing) and arrived to a very painfully smelly room (room 409) here at Casa Da Calcada. I couldn’t tell if it was bug spray, air freshener or old lady perfume but it burned my nose so much that we had to change rooms (and I have never before asked to change rooms but I didn’t want the headlines to read “American couple asphyxiates in room because too polite.”) If it was just the smell it would be one thing, but both the smelly room and the new room that they gave to us were painfully shabby. Carpet stained as other reviewers have noted. So instead of relaxing on our 7th night of vacation, I’m scrambling trying to find a suitable hotel to go to for tomorrow night because I’m not sure we can stay here one more night. I personally don’t like wearing my shoes in the room but I don’t want my feet to touch the floor. It’s too bad because the location is wonderful.

We visited this hotel for our friends’ birthday party over a weekend. The staff were friendly, fun and couldn’t do enough for us. The rooms were exquisite, the food superb and the location was idyllic. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you can, go there and treat yourself. You won’t regret it.

What a lovely hotel. It’s immaculate. The service is impeccable, the location perfect. The pool area is one of the most beautiful I have ever experienced. We dined in the attached Michelin starred restaurant which was superb. The hotel has some mountain bikes which we used on the converted railway track (upstream) as well as the riverbank tracks ( downstream) both great rides with spectacular scenery. Amarante itself has a nice vibe which got better over time.

A truly beautiful and amazing experience. The hotel is situated on the riverside with commanding views of the river and town beyond. The staff were super helpful, courteous and a joy to be looked after by. The pool area is quiet and very relaxing. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely stay @ this old world charm hotel. We booked a suite with balcony and stunning views of the bridge, the river and the cathedral. At night it is amazing. Walking distance to restaurants, small shops, cafes and the center of town. The room was very large, with walking closet, large bathroom with all expected amenities in a 5 star hotel. I always love hotels with Nespresso coffee machines in the rooms. Of course, turn down service at night. The property, a Relaix and Chateaux is lovely and the staff is professional and serviceable. Dinner @Canto do Redondo was delicious and breakfast was very good. Highly recommended for a wonderful stay in Amarante.

Truly excellent hotel with five star service all around, rooms were very big with plenty of amenities (nespresso machine in each room), really good breakfast, and the view from our room was fantastic. The staff was very kind and attentive, and it is perfect for a stroll around Amarante. In the summer they have an outdoor pool and garden, which is recommended.

It's a real five star hotel, with excellent staff overall, and quality facilities. The rooms are enormous, and the view is very good. Breakfast was also very good. It also had some nice amenities. It is an expensive hotel, but worth it in my view. The restaurant is a Michelin-starred location. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it.

We were on a long 3+ week driving trip through Spain and Portugal and were looking for a place for our final stop before heading to Morocco. The Casa da Calcada was a perfect hotel to recharge before our next leg. The hotel is set inside a secluded compound that makes you feel like you have arrived in a special place. The staff greeted us upon arrival and from that point on, they took care of us in every detail. The dining facilities were great (there is a Michelin rated restaurant here!). The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The bed was great and the bathroom was excellent. We had high expectations with the Relais & Chateaux brand and Casa da Calcada dit not disappoint. Will return to this hotel on any future stop in Aramante. P.S. The staff even proactively emailed us before our arrival with alternate driving instructions due to some road work near the hotel...that's client service!
