This is not what we have come to expect in regards to resorts in Mexico. The food was very mediocre, the facilities were crowded, the pools were HOT. No pumps to keep them somewhat cool so there was no relief from the heat. They have many deals with charter programs so people are bussed in daily to keep the place full. You can tell the business model is to keep the price cheap and make sure they are at full capacity at all times. Probably great for college kids looking to party at a bargain but not great for couples or families. The staff was great and hard working, they are overworked for sure. We ended up switching hotels halfway through bc we were not happy. Riu said they would reimburse us for the 4 nights remaining on our stay but they did not hold true to that promise and after many Tun-around we were stuck paying for the 4 nights we did not stay there. I do not recommend.

We had so many problems: we had an alarm blaring in the middle of the night for 30 minutes, room service was not provided, they have no Mexican food, the food at the other restaurants is mediocre at best, they charged us $25 to check out an hour late, they wouldn’t give us dry towels at the pool, the pool areas and halls were dirty. The entire experience was disappointing compared to other all inclusives we’ve visited. We would not recommend and can’t imagine spending money to come back.

Reserved room smelled like cigarette, view from door was a construction site. Had the hardest time trying to change room or even upgrade. Called for towels 3 times hours apart and no one ever came. Bathrooms would barely flush, pools would close early and it was hot and humid but that was the rules. Food was bland except for the steakhouse restaurant.

The hotel itself could use a bit of updating (rooms, bathrooms, restaurants) but the staff everywhere in this hotel was absolutely fantastic! So nice and helpful!! Thanks for making our trip to RIU PV so much fun!!!

Had everything you needed. Things I would have changed is that there is zero Mexican food. They have a small station at the buffet which is good but I was definitely bummed not to get that experience and we had to go off campus to find it. Food does the job but the fanciest restaurants were the worst. Service everywhere was amazing per usual. Very hard workers and always so friendly. Room had broken tv and no working outlets. Called twice to have someone fix it and by then we decided to just go without and enjoy unplugging. They did offer to fix it so it was our ultimate decision to not taken them up on it. Beach was beautiful and pools were big and spaced out. About 30 mins from downtown and they don’t cover cabs so it does get pricey but worth the drive forsure!

We loved the stay. It was very enjoyable! The only complaint we had was the stairs from the lobby to the ground where the restaurants, entertainment and beach was. My husband has a bad leg and uses a walking stick. It was very difficult for him to get up and down the stairs 2-3 times a day. They need an elevator that is close to the stairs in the lobby for people with disabilities.

I’ve stayed at a lot of all inclusive resorts in Mexico. Riu Vallarta is by far my least favorite. There is one non-buffet restaurant. The restaurants are supposedly no reservations required (first come, first serve). However, the steak house takes reservations for those that get in line at 5:30 to put their names on a list. Anyone that shows up after 5:30 is out of luck!! Very ridiculous policy! The $500 resort credit is really two $15 coupons for the spa or other options that are not included in the all inclusive. You must go online to get confirmation from the resort to get the coupons. After 5 days, we never got confirmation and never got a single coupon. The resort credit is a scam! I will steer clear of any Riu in the future. The staff was good but the Riu brand is definitely a huge disappointment!
