Looking for somewhere warm to just kick back, relax and do as little as possible we probably looked at 100+ boutique hotels and resorts around the Med, until we came across Castello Infinity in Ayia Pelagia and something from the pictures and reviews said ”this was the one”. And it certainly did not let us down in a delightful and relaxing week. Everything we could have asked for and more. The Hotel is only twenty minutes around the headland from the airport at Heraklion and we’d strongly recommend a taxi transfer that delivers you to the door. 20 minutes from walking out of arrivals at the airport. The hotel is sited at one end of the calm bay and beach-front of Ayia Pelagia, which itself is a small but delightful village nestled against the clear blue waters of Crete’s north coast. A very slick, friendly and professional welcome, but more about the fantastic staff at Castello later. We had booked quite late and had an Aquamarine mountain rather than sea view suite, which turned out to be a stroke of luck due to the hotel’s position within the local topography. And thus we found ourselves in room 1201 on the second floor, and being the first room on the corridor enjoying an expansive and more spacious balcony area. The room was a very good size, with fairly minimalist but fitting decor. Important points about any hotel: Pillows - excellent; mattress - verging on the firm side of firm but very comfortable; Shower Pressure - excellent with both a waterfall and hand held shower; Hot Water - plentiful. Add to this plentiful wardrobe and shelving space; coffee machine; safe; a wonderful standalone full length mirror, effective air-con; excellent wi-fi, electronically controlled black out blinds including bedside controls; and the ubiquitous large TV - not that we flew to Crete to watch television. Lovely bathroom; both room and beach towels provided. Everything pristinely clean. Big tick. But somewhat pales in comparison when you step out onto the west facing and spacious balcony. Two very comfortable sun loungers, a spacious area for the table and two chairs; and the piece de resistance the plunge pool glistening in the sun. A good size being probably around 3m long and 1.75m across. 180 degree view from the balcony taking in the fairly steep hillsides rising up from the village and giving a spectacular view of the beach front and much of the bay. Given the aspect somewhat shaded in the morning, but the table and plunge pool picked up the sun from mid morning, and the whole balcony not long thereafter until the sun started to set behind the mountains. Whilst not the more premium suites offered by the hotel we’d much prefer this over the ground floor mezzanine suites. On the tick list: Balcony even bigger tick. The restaurant and bar area is mainly outside on the first floor of the hotel with tables set to offer a wonderful view of the beach front and sea. Breakfast has a fairly extensive and delightful menu, plus a buffet for fr
My daughter and I, we had a fantastic relaxing break together at this hotel. Out of the Blue resort and its setting is great with panoramic views in all directions, well kept gardens and grounds The room we offered was really big with jacuzzi bath and separate shower room and really nice toiletries, big double bed, with large lounge area and a fantastic sea view. There's tea/coffee service tray with kettle, 6 ( 2ltr) bottles of water, 2ltr bottle of cola, a litre carton of orange juice and a bottle of local red wine. The food and drinks, we only managed to eat at the main restaurant, the Red Pepper for all breakfast, lunch and dinner. The beach bar, we lunched twice. Both were really good and delicious, with plenty of selections to suit all and of good quality local produces. We had loads of cocktails at the beach bar the pool bar and the one at the lobby bar, they were really good. Staff were working tirelessly, friendly and courtesy. The Aegeo Spas was nice, with hydro pool, sauna and Hamman steam room( unfortunately broken). We had 70 minutes Cretan massage was amazing. Thanks to our therapists, Penny and Nikos.
This hotel did not live up to the advertised blurb by the travel operator, Love Holidays. Firstly, the rooms were fundamental, with the furniture required to be updated. The pictures needed to be updated, as the dining/cafeteria area was extremely basic. There should be air conditioning throughout the dining area, as the kitchen is situated close by, with all cooking smells adding to the extreme heat. There was little crockery and cutlery available at each sitting, and the tables needed to be cleared a lot quicker, leaving many tables cluttered with dirty dishes. Our party had to clear our tables to continue the next course. Fresh Juices are squash alternatives, dispensed only at breakfast. One visit to the coffee machine is enough for one week. Many dishes were not labelled, so anyone with allergies could not choose their meal quickly, and it was very bland and repetitive. It also states that there are lifts within the building, but to our knowledge, they were unavailable to the guests. The swimming pool could be more user-friendly for those who are strong swimmers. The minimum depth was 1.3 metres, but you had to use the only steps available at the deeper end, meaning that a non-swimmer couldn't even get in the pool for a cool-down. There were insufficient toilets available around the pool and bar areas. Far too many steps and slopes made it difficult for those entering the hotel with their luggage to get to their rooms safely. There is no lifeguard around the pool. The sun loungers needed to be more sufficient for the number of guests - no tables to sit at in the evening for a quiet drink after dinner, and you had to use the sun longer - never have I experienced this on travels before. The all-inclusive package only offers limited drinks and closes the bar at 11 pm. All local drinks are required, too. Please remember the text below.
