Shinnabhura Historic Hotel is a huge place, with lots of historical decor and artifacts, including a collection of spears and swords. Unfortunately for foreign visitors, none of the descriptions of the collectables includes English. The place has to be incredibly challenging to maintain and Covid has undoubtedly contributed to its weathered look. The pool was not clean (I doubt anyone would be interested to get in the water in the condition it was in when we stayed). The drum tower was filthy with pigeon droppings. The outdoor amphitheater stage was in disrepair. The spa and bar were closed. The TV in the room had just one English channel (CNA). On top of all, the room charge was pretty steep for what they provide; you're paying for the historical ambience, which unfortunately isn't currently up to expectations. Those critical observations were tempered somewhat by the huge, comfortable bed, good air con, very good complimentary breakfast with many choices, a very clean room, and very engaging and helpful staff. I hope the management can find the resources to do proper maintenance and bring the place back to its full potential.
