This used to be one of the best places to stay in Banff.
We've been staying here for over 20 years.
It has been a couple years since we have made it back and there is a noticeable difference.
New management is in place and you can definitely feel the shift.
The significant changes were in the service and the details.
The little things that used to make this hotel exceptional were missing at every turn. Check-in was arduous, disorganized. Especially since I called in advance to ensure a seamless start.
Although the room was lovely, the new bathrobes are no longer plush and snuggly. Dinner was alright. However dessert and after dinner cocktails turned into a less than enjoyable situation (note: the new management has changed the room service rules, so be prepared to bring your own night cap, as they will no longer have that option. Which is extra inconvenient since the amenities that used to be across the street are gone.
Double check the towel situation before you hop in the hot tub, always full we never thought to look and were caught without.
Late check out, even if confirmed is questionable. Housekeeping walked in on me in the shower, half hour before check out.
If you are having breakfast be sure the front desk doesn't automatically close out your room before you actually check out, otherwise it is a nigh**are to close out your stay. It's possible this was just a string of unfortunate events, though I think it will be a while before we choose this property again.
