老井賓館(The Old Well Inn)

The Old Well Inn doesn’t deserve 1 star Wouldn’t recommend at all… The pictures online need updating… Broken bed..dirty carpet..smelt..the list is endless… This ruined our overnight trip away to a beautiful part of the country… WE DID NOT STAY 😡

This was our first time in the old well inn and roy and rena made us very welcome such a lovely pub and lovely warm welcome from staff it was really lovely of the owners to come to the motohome to see us on our last day give us a gift i say 100% food amazing and very lovely garden will definitely come back to see you again thanks so much for everything u did. definitely come back 100% 😀 😊

Guests staying at the Inn need to be aware that the bar is shut early at 9.30pm and residents are told to go to their room at 10pm. This information is not made available to prospective guests until they read the leaflet in the room. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights 22nd and 23rd August 2023 we were told bar was closing at 9.30pm. We would not have stayed here if we had known this in advance. Beer quality was very good but on second evening we drank elsewhere.

Large rooms with antique furniture to match. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Situated in the "Antiques Quarter" of Barnard Castle there are loads of shops close by to browse around and plenty of coffee shops and pubs to wet your whistle in close by

Wow what a wonderful meal I have just had from this great local pub ... This is my second delivery via just eats this week from them as the first curry was so good that I needed to try another .... (Sorry I'm greedy ... Lol ... But it was all so yummy) .... Had the sharing box for 2 lamb curry and samosas ... Everything is homemade and to traditional recipes and leaves the most amazing tang of spices in the mouth for hours after ... Great portion, great price and such warm and grateful service too

Stayed for two night to attend a wedding nearby. We were very disappointed by the room. The bed was falling apart, we had to go under the bed to fix the supporting leg, which was lay on the floor, every time you moved in the night the headboard squeaked and rattled. We reported it in the morning after the first night and nothing was done. Consequently we hardly had any sleep on both nights. We could hear guests next door, who were not being noisy but the walls must be that thin. The shower consisted of a shower head attached to the bath taps but no attachment on the wall above the bath. There was also no shower curtain so you basically had to kneel in the bath to try and have a shower. It was advertised as having sockets by the bed which was being very economical with the truth as the only socket was right under the bed in the middle on the skirting board so it was not possible to plug anything into it. In a positive note, the breakfast and coffee was very good. Whilst we appreciate it is clearly a very old building, work needs to be done to bring this room upto standard. Very expensive for what it is.

Nice historic old pub near centre of town. The room was very spacious with a massive bathroom. However, I found the bed far too soft for me and uncomfortable. Breakfast was good. Overall reasonable value.

The Old Well Inn is run by such a friendly and welcoming couple Roy and Rima. It is spotlessly clean and the food is amazing. English food and amazing Indian food. The Chef came out and talked us through the food he had cooked. We are certainly going again!
