If you're a Mizzou parent struggling to find reasonably priced accommodations in Columbia during football weekends, consider staying at The Fred in nearby Boonville. I recently stayed there for Dad’s Weekend and couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience. On our first night, my son joined us for dinner at the hotel’s excellent restaurant. Afterward, we drove back to Columbia for the evening’s activities. Upon returning, I made sure to check out the speakeasy in the basement—an absolute highlight with its cozy vibe and live music. The next morning, my wife and I strolled along Main Street, enjoying the charm of locally owned shops. We even had the pleasure of meeting Holly, the owner of Hotel Frederick. She previously managed the hotel for years before purchasing it to run as a family business. Her passion for the property is evident in every detail. The rooms are uniquely styled with 1920s flair, thoughtfully updated with modern touches. If you're expecting the luxury of the Waldorf Astoria or the Broadmoor, this may not be the place for you. But if you’re looking for a memorable, character-filled stay with: * A great restaurant and bar on the main floor * A speakeasy with live music on weekends * An antique store right inside the hotel * A classic town diner next door * And the friendliest staff around …then The Fred is your spot. Hotel Frederick is now my go-to place when visiting my son at M-I-Z-Z-O-U! Caveat - If you need perfect conditions for sleep, please bring ear plugs and a sleep mask. Personally, I need some low level noise to sleep, and I am up before the sun. If you are the opposite, the single pain windows and wood blinds do not create silent black out conditions.

The biggest issue: our room was disgustingly dirty. Have a look at the photo from the shower. The whole shower was like that with a thick layer of slime mold in each corner. Had not been scrubbed properly for weeks, maybe months. Made the mistake of trying to open a window. As I moved the blinds, which were broken and did not open properly, dust and dirt flew up everywhere from the windowsill and the blinds. The people at the front desk are dressed very casually. The man who checked us in was helpful but the woman who checked us out couldn't have cared less if we lived or died. No one asked how our stay was or I would have talked to them about the cleanliness of the room. Since they didn't bother (and did not follow up with an email request, either) I decided to post this review. The room was large and comfortable although it could have used a couple of more tables (only one bedside table was present). The dinner we had in the restaurant was very good (although the cleanliness of the room made me worry about the sanitation in the kitchen). Would not stay again.

Fantastic experience. Don’t miss it The history is worth the visit alone, but the staff, the restaurant and the location make it a must see for a special visit. Be sure to give it a try. If you are into cycling on the KATY trail, staying at Hotel Frederick is a no brainer.

This is such a cute boutique hotel with an amazing restaurant and speakeasy in it. The quaint creaking of the floors and the layout of the different rooms was great. Staff is friendly and they have a cat liaison to greet you. Comfortable & clean

This historic building is understandably quirky, but is also charming and comfortable, with modern conveniences. Our 2-night stay was made extra-enjoyable by the very warm and welcoming staff. The attached restaurant provided us with 2 excellent, delicious meals. (You must have the Bocanegra dessert!) This is the perfect place from which to visit the Budweiser Clydesdales at nearby Warm Springs Ranch. We had 3 wonderful tours there. Note: the included breakfast consists of coffee, juice, yogurt and packaged breakfast bars.

Our third visit in a year, we just love the staff and accommodations. It's one of my favorite hotels, ever. The Bar and the restaurant are warm and welcoming. Any issues are dealt with personally, and in a timely fashion. Thanks for making such a historic, interesting place available. See you later this year.

Our second stay at Hotel Fredrick, convenient to everything available in Boonville. Overlooks the Missouri River and about ten minutes drive to Budweiser Warm Spring Ranch, breeding facility and farm for their Clydesdales herd. Everyone was nice and helpful with any questions or issues we had. Can choose your exact room wanted by location and furnishing. We love the mix of Antiques and updated bathrooms and some of the more modern furnishings. Our rooms have been large and clean. Staff, bartenders, servers, front desk and even the owner on site, are welcoming and pleasant. We will be returning in a few months with more couples in tow for another three day visit.

Disappointing experience. We’ve been fans of the Fred for years but are sad to say that this wasn’t a good experience. We discovered in the morning of our departure that we didn’t have hot water despite there being only a handful of guests in the hotel. When I reported this to the desk clerk- (who was sitting on the couch in the foyer on a personal call and didn’t get up to check us out or even ask for the key back) she didn’t apologize for the inconvenience . After a lengthy pause she said she guesses she’ll ask the housekeeper to check it out. Disappointing response from a very unprofessional clerk. I left with the room key in my pocket by mistake- as she never asked me for it. Luckily I found it before I pulled away. This was our last stay at the Fred, definitely not the same level of TLC that the last owners had for the property.

Historic hotel comfortably retrofitted with some modern features. Rooms very clean and tidy. Staff extremely cordial and helpful. Comfortable lodging for the second night in our Katy Trail ride. Interesting photos of yesteryear scattered throughout the premises. They have a bar and restaurant in site. It unfortunately it was closed on the night we were there. Continental breakfast was just that. Extremely basic but we made do.

Sad to say this hotel was disappointing. It is on two very busy roads downtown. The windows are old and therefore are not soundproof at all. The air conditioning unit is very noisy and when it came on, even the beds shook. Fortunately, I brought my white noise machine or we would not have slept much at all. The blinds on the windows are old and let in the first morning light whether you're ready to get up or not. There were holes on the wall in the bathroom and really nowhere to put one's toiletries. We waited quite a while for someone to come to the front desk to check us in - right around 7:30 in the evening. The continental breakfast was disappointing, especially for the price paid for the room. We love staying in historic hotels, but this one has seen better days. I would not recommend it.

Wonderfully restored and charming hotel in Boonville near the Katy Trail. This early 1900s hotel exudes historic grace and hospitality. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay here and would return.

Beautifully restored historic hotel. We loved all the antiques. Great place to stay in Boonville with a ton of character. Our room was large, very comfortable bed, had everything we needed and restored/updated bathroom. Our bathroom had a shower, but no tub, which was fine for us. A continental breakfast was included and was plenty for us. Unfortunately, the restaurant in the building was not open the evening we were there. My husband needs a frig for his medications and one was included in our room. The owner greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions.

1900s hotel with the character that makes it special Its a pretty town and we wish we had more time to explore. The rooms had their own bathrooms which I think about staying in a historical hotel. The food was good. I would very much like to come back again. The people were nice and friendly and fun to talk to.

Had the pleasure of being warmly welcomed and assisted by a personable concierge, John, after a long day on the Katy Trail. The hotel is perfectly located when traveling on the KT from east to west. Very comfortable rooms and the pub/restaurant are on the premises and provide a relaxing atmosphere.
