We visited on Saturday night for a last minute birthday dinner! The owners were charming and welcoming and the staff were very friendly and went the extra mile. The food was delicious! Rib eye steak and fish specials grilled on "The Beast" were perfect! Would highly recommend!

Had an amazing meal at the smugglers. The chef Curtis showed us the different steaks and talked us through each one. I had the ribeye steak which I asked it to be cooked bleu, it was perfect and up there with the best I’ve ever had. All the team were lovely and friendly. I would definitely recommend a visit.

We’ve tried to support the Smugglers as we live just up the road. Sadly tonight fell short and I worry it’s the inevitable decline. The concept is spot on. Local meat cooked in front of you at a price that is eye watering but you’ll pay because it is top notch. Last two visits we’ve paid £40-45 per head for chateaubriand. Harsh but the crust and cooking has been spot on. Tonight £50 a head. Ok but will it be as good Sadly .. no… One of our pieces of meat was served almost well done. And having waited an age for it we had no choice but to just eat it . That represented really poor value. We were struggling now as we really like the place but that’s a lot of money for mediocre beef. So we told the waitress who sort of apologised and offered free deserts. Didn’t work for us as we’re full up. In the end we just paid and added a tip. I’m posting this review to give the owners a kick up the ****. If you want locals to return then do better. Olive never lets us down and they are 1/4 your prices. You should have just let that one go and struck it from the bill. I’m not sure we will be back. Sorry.

New Year's Eve party - We had a fantastic experience here! The food was absolutely excellent — fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Every dish we tried was delicious. The owners, Mark and Emily, are incredibly welcoming and genuinely passionate about what they do. They made us feel right at home. The staff were also outstanding — friendly, attentive, and professional without being overbearing. You both made 2026 an amazing one x You can really feel the warm atmosphere and pride behind this place. Highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!

Wanted to try the Chateaubriand but they didn’t have any so had the Tomahawk which wasn’t great. For £95 I’d expect more, rather than a lot of fat, as a sharing steak and the chips/salad that come with it are for one. Wife ordered the fish of the day Plaice, which then they didn’t have, and were told it would be monkfish instead, but then Plaice arrived ? A really Lovely setting but the food wasn’t worth it. Bill was reduced which I appreciated but TBH I’d of preferred great food and to pay full price.

Stayed at this great Hotel to celebrate the 80th Birthday of a local celebrity. Very warm & comfortable. The Owner & her Husband were very friendly & made us very welcome, as did their staff. I would highly recommend this lovely Hotel, & we hope to stay again very soon. Thanks again for making our weekend very comfy.

I thoroughly enjoyed my overnight stay at this comfortable hotel and cosy room, which included excellent supper and breakfast served in the restaurant. My steak was cooked to perfection by the chef on an open grill in the dining area, adding to the convivial atmosphere, and the selection of organic wines was second to none. The hotel has recently undergone an extensive ground-floor renovation, creating a pleasant, rustic ambience. Overall, a very positive experience at a decent price and an ideal location for visiting the picturesque town of Brixham.

Not impressed with this hotel - dirty and very tired. My single room was cell like - dark grey ceiling, walls and carpet, depressing outlook onto metal railings and high wall with no sky visible, couldn’t open window in Bathroom and no extractor fan so whole room steamed up when I had a shower (water takes an age to get hot), spongy bathroom floor - I suspect it’s rotten underneath the old vinyl. Breakfast was minimal and served on dirty crockery. It could be such a lovely hotel but needs gutting with some serious investment.
