19th September 2026 Fantastic food, Chef amazing,…could not fault it. 💯 🥩 Front of house staff not so good unfortunately. Had to wait a some time before being seated, then wait for menu, then even longer wait to order wine, Chef took our order for steaks long before waitress even came to see us , then side order of veg forgotten somehow, …( which was delicious when CHEF brought them to table! ) Waited again to order a dessert, so gave up. Paid up at reception to a sarcastic comment made from one of the staff, which we picked up on. (Have worked in hospitality for 20 years so know exactly how it works,…. keep your thoughts to yourself!) Maybe some training in Hospitality is needed because it’s such a gorgeous place and unfortunately that’s what let it down for us this evening. ☹️

Had a fantastic Sunday roast with my wife ribeye with all the trimmings everything was perfect we had a cocktail and pudding to very friendly staff ,owner and chef couldn’t recommend anywhere better can’t wait to go back

I have now stayed many times at The Smugglers, and hope to do many times again. I really like this place. Its location is excellent, and I have always had a very comfortable room - the management cannot be held responsible for the seagull serenade! There is a very good breakfast. This time I liked the scrambled eggs on sourdough, and the orange juice is good quality. The only thing that I would say, and I realise that there are challenges in these times, is that the hotel does have the feeling of being somewhat understaffed. Probably related to the latter point, on two evenings when I came back - not late - the hotel bar was either about to close or already closed. But, I do look forward to coming back before too long.

We went for dinner on the last night of our stay in Brixham, and we definitely saved the best for last. The decor in the restaurant was cosy and stylish with a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and went out of their way to make us welcome. The food was completely wonderful- we had the fish fillet, the burger and a steak. The steak was absolutely perfect- the best I have ever had!

"Ran out" of charcuterie (starter) and tartiflette (side), but it was only 7pm on a Tuesday night and given that their steak menu is so limited, it's reasonable to expect that they should have enough. Waited over 50 minutes for our starter (bread) - would've been longer if we hadn't chased this up with the staff. Restaurant was not full. Then found out 'steak on the stone' meant cooking our own raw steak on a raclette stone plate. This wasn't clear to us when we booked online or when we ordered our food. Asked if the chef would cook our steaks for us and told no. Seems the chef was swamped with cooking chips, the only other thing on the menu that required cooking. We left - didn't want to pay over £50 for two sirloin steaks that we needed to cook for ourselves. Turns out it's not even an actual cut of sirloin - it's served in raw strips. Terrible! So disappointing - photos online look great. If you want to go for steak, check in advance that you're not booking steak on the stone (Mon/Tues).

Firstly this is a beautiful building and worth a visit for a cuppa just to experience the ambience. Very welcoming staff! Super friendly. Service was excellent! A great wine list. We all ordered a steak, medium. It was a delicious piece BUT I prefer to cut up my own meat, this arrived hacked into, and very messy on the plate. Sides were not individual, it doesn’t say that on the menu, and there weren’t enough chips for 3 in the pudding bowl. Salad needed dressing. At the price point I did expect better presentation….

Absolutely first class food! Loved it especially the scallops and the nut roast.

The best Sunday dinner I’ve ever had… the Beef was cooked to perfection the chef is very modest… cooked in front of us.. 100% grass fed.. the carrots and veg was lush..absolutely beautiful cannot praise this beautiful place enough the staff couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a lovely dining experience

We specifically booked the Smugglers to have the steak cooked on the hot stone. (Lunchtime). Our youngest grandson had the children's steak , peas and chips which was an amazing piece of steak. Our other grandson had the sirloin which came part cooked and he delighted in cooking it to his choosing on the hot stone. He also enjoyed cooking the tomatoes and onions on it too. A fun experience! Myself and my husband had the steak baguettes which were also great and a huge bowl of salad and skin on fries to accompany them. The staff are so friendly and in particular Emily, The lovely landlady. The building is quaint and very clean. Make sure you seek it out. It's so worth a visit.

This was my second visit to this restaurant in the space of a month. The food is very good save for far too much salt on the dishes which I’ve experienced on both occasions. Also on this occasion we had to wait 50 minutes for our dinner to be served. I know ours was a last minute booking but we were not warned of this when I phoned. A great restaurant with good ambience nonetheless.

Stayed overnight as part of our SWCP walking trip. First impressions in terms of location and decor were good but the experience was a bit disappointing. Our room was fine but a bit drab with dark walls and no artwork. Sadly (especially for walkers) the shower never got beyond lukewarm. Breakfast was an odd experience. They had run out of yoghurt so a choice of just two cereal’s was the only starter. Had to ask for milk which seemed unnecessary. Cooked option was ok to eat but took ages - seemed like just one young chap taking orders and doing all of the cooking. Breakfast shouldn’t really take nearly an hour - again, not great if you are walking. Shame, as the potential is good but we were underwhelmed..

Came here for a meal, again. Fabulous food as always and very friendly staff. We challenged them sadly as 3 of us have allergies but as always they worked around this and found great alternatives. They have a lovely selection of gin!

Fantastic stay at The Smugglers Hotel in Brixham for the Pirate Festival. Wonderful staff with splendid attitudes and good manners. And food was out of this world from the Argentinian Grill xx

We went for the Sunday lunch - it was wonderful! So tasty, large and great value - we shared a beef joint, it came with roast potatoes, vegetables, cauliflower cheese, leeks, Yorkshire puddings and gravy - we will be coming back again and again, it was truly delicious washed down with a very good red wine. The restaurant is decorated lovely, very relaxed, great to see the meat before cooking and lovely hosts.
