We visit here at least twice weekly. Excellent food and service every time. Top quality produce. Sunday lunch roasts are always on point. George & team have nailed it. 5* every time.

Very disappointed with my first visit to Salhouse Lodge as I'd heard so much about it and was really looking forward to it. 8 of us were visiting for Sunday lunch to celebrate two birthdays. We had a bit of a wait for our table as the restaurant was so busy which was surely a good sign. Unfortunately, (and this is no reflection on the management) we had an extremely noisy group of youngsters also waiting to eat who seemed to have no control over their children. We could barely hear ourselves talk. When we were called through we found ourselves seated next to yet another large group of youngsters with their children who were equally as noisy. The women in our party all ordered roast chicken and we couldn't fault it. You certainly get a very generous plateful though I'm not sure a large cabbage leaf on top of the veg really complemented the meal. Unfortunately, two of our party ordered the beef and they found this quite tough. All in all we enjoyed the meal though it definitely didn't live up to my expectations of what I'd heard. We definitely won't be eating Sunday lunch there again with that level of noise which was more akin to a youngsters' fast food restaurant. Shame.

Stayed overnight as my husband had business locally. Beautiful hotel just minutes away from Norwich, but quietly located. Not overpriced. Staff so welcoming and friendly. Our rooms were spacious comfortable and the ensuites modern and exceptionally clean. We ate dinner in the Lodge restaurant which is open all day, perfect if you have children, or need an early dinner. The menus were extensive and catered for every taste.Our choices were beautifully cooked and presented. We eat out a lot, and the food was amongst the best we've eaten for long time. The sauces were rich and full of deliciousness 😋 When in the area we will definately stay again.. Thank you!

Attended lunch at The Lodge yesterday, booked a few weeks ago. We are big fans of Colchester Inns and frequently visit here and the other pubs. Sadly, yesterday was very average. We were shown to the table but not much of a welcome. Lots of staff seem to "walk the loop" round and round the restaurant...even though we were waiting for drinks and to order. My Son and I order a burger each and. for the price, very average...small burger, lots of chips on a big plate, no garnish at all. Chips were "warm" and the burger if I'm honest did not seem cooked properly. My wife's dish was nice though I will say. Desserts were far far too expensive. For a meal well over £100 (no alcohol) and average food & service, we were not impressed.

Been many times now and i'm never disappointed with the food and service. Popped in the other day and again the food was amazing. Thanks to George and his team for a lovely evening.

children for a family Christmas get-together. We had pre-ordered the festive menu, but the whole experience felt extremely rushed from the moment we sat down. Within five minutes of being seated, our drink order had been taken and the starters were already placed on the table—before any drinks arrived. As starters were being cleared, the mains arrived immediately after, giving us no time to relax or enjoy the meal. The Christmas roast turkey was mediocre at best. The turkey itself was a little tough and difficult to cut. The broccoli was so hard it couldn’t be cut, and the roast potatoes were dry and hard—either pre-cooked or frozen—with nothing crisp about them. Everything sat in lukewarm gravy on cold plates, which didn’t help. Condiments such as cranberry sauce and mustard arrived halfway through the main course. A second round of drinks was ordered with the mains but didn’t arrive until dessert was served. Desserts were fine, but overall the meal lacked atmosphere and felt rushed throughout. Would I return? Sadly no

Managed to get in last minute on a busy Friday lunchtime. Amazing food, beautifully presented and lots of it and amazing service! Will be back!

Well just to say this pub has consistently proved to be a place to visit! We live not far from here and are very happy about that. The food, always good, the beer, always good, the wine always good and all, yes ALL of the staff beyond good, in fact always happy to help in any way. Well recommended! Jugg

We visited as a party of 14 and were so impressed with everything about Salhouse Lodge. The meal was superb, we all thought our meals were delicious and so well presented. The service was the best I have experienced in such a long time, very attentive and so friendly and smiley nothing was too much trouble . It can be difficult getting additional drinks at the table but we didn’t have to ask once we were asked by the staff numerous times if we wanted extra drinks. One person had forgotten to order a side dish and immediately they went to the kitchen to sort it for us. It was such a wonderful evening so thank you all for your hard work.

Very large very noisy room. Plate full of potatoes, mash and roast that were reheated. Veg would have been better served as a side, some veg uncooked and carrots were overcooked. Friendly staff but wouldn’t revisit.

We recently visited the Ringland Swan and said that they fell short of the normal Colchester Inns standard - but this certainly is not a criticism we would level at the Lodge..........which delivered excellent food and service. Superb !!

A very nice venue as rather expensive menu was mine main point , A very busy restaurant with wonderful staff, Very clean restaurant as very large portions given too, Will definitely return here for sure.

Very disappointing. Went out with son and his family for breakfast. Waited for over an hour for the food to arrive, by which time the normally very well behaved one year old, became had become tired, grumpy and bored, so eating the food when it did arrive was not relaxing, or enjoyable and had to be rushed. To make matters worse, people who came after us were served before us, which really annoys me. The reason to two stars, not one? The staff recognised the delay and negated the bill. Still, we went out for an enjoyable and relaxing breakfast as a family, which didn’t happen, regardless of the cost.
