Well where do I start....I was due to meet some family members here on Sunday 30th. What an awful experience First of all I ordered a drink at the bar. Got a reluctant grumble from the barman, "Can I elp ya?" I asked for a pint of Birla Moretaine please. He served this is an old straight glass glass that was dirty, had faded branding on and was etched. He thrust the card machine in front of me. I said thank-you and tapped Maybe he was having a bad day. The beer itself was tasteless and went flat quickly (maybe due to the dirty glass) and at £6.35 a pint this was not great. In the pub, football was being shown, which is usual in many pubs on a Sunday afternoon and fine with me. As fathers watched the match, they left their 12 year old eating burgers and watching tic-toc and you tube on a separate table, which wasn't an ideal backdrop. I'm not sure what the vaping policy is in the Waterman, but from what i could gather, it appeared to be a free for all. Everybody was ok to vape inside and they did, creating an unpleasant haze and hideous smell as they did so. It was at this point with the plume of some awful blend black cherry fragrance and caramel, that I chose to leave, leaving a half of my drink (around £4 worth!!) I have lived in Cambridge all my life, and use the pubs on a regular basis, and I am a very adaptable person when it comes to drinking establishments and indeed the clientelle. I have never felt the need to give a Cambridge pub a negative review before, but this was, by every measure a truly shocking experience. The management should take heed of the customer, they are expected to pay £6.35 for a pint of beer, the minimum to expect is some courtesy, quality, cleanliness and standards.
