黑馬旅館(The Black Horse)

We have stayed here 4 times now using the B&B whilst working on a project nearby. Sarah the manager, Rachel and the chef Harley are fantastic and the scampi and burger last night was hot and fresh and tasty and the full English on the two occasions we had it have been hot and fresh and cooked perfectly. The pub has a nice friendly vibe and a lot of that is down to the staff named above. Yes the rooms need some TLC but the beds are comfortable and clean and can have a hot shower so basics are covered. Claire and John.

I booked 3 rooms for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding locally. Rooms were very tired and could have done with a good clean (mould on walls etc). Curtains didn’t fit properly on one of the rooms so anyone walking past could have seen into room, also meant that light outside room was visible all night. Shower cubicles in 2 of the rooms were the tiniest I’ve seen in a B&B / hotel for a while (3rd had shower above the bath), doors were awful & no shelf for shampoo etc. Hot water couldn’t cope with the amount of people staying, first couple of people had hot showers, but after that is was cold, not good when you are trying to get ready for a wedding (didn’t appreciate having to wash my hair in cold water). We ate in the restaurant on the Friday, it was “ok” but nothing to write home about. Breakfast on the Saturday was again “ok”, thing the “chef” struggled to cook for 7 people at the same time (another room was also occupied). Husband asked for a second coffee and was told it would be at an extra charge, he didn’t want the hash browns or tomatoes which were included in the full English but when he asked if he could swap them for an extra slice of fried bread again it was an extra charge (no reduction for the items included in the full English which weren’t available…… Although not as expensive as some of the other local hotels at £75 per night (+ £10 pp for breakfast) I did at least expect the rooms to be clean & not smell damp. Would I book again…… not unless there is a serious refurb / deep clean.

We dropped into the Black Horse last night for an impromptu meal and were made very welcome. We had good food and beer and the atmosphere was really friendly. The new landlady and her team did their best to make sure we had a pleasant experience.

This pub has had new management very recently and it is determined to provide an excellent and friendly service. I strayed for a couple of nights in a nice ground level annexe and could park right up to my door so no lifting heavy bags up stairs. The wifi was good and I got a decent download speed. The evening meals and breakfast were cooked with care. All in all, I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The room was stone cold and the small convection heater made little or no impression on the room temperature. The same problem in the bathroom, the heater just wasn’t up to the task. I was in need of the extra blanket from the wardrobe but this was filthy. The decor was tired - some decoration and cleaning were needed. Some of the sealant round the bath was cracked and dirty. The hosts were friendly and the food was okay - nothing too fancy but big portions. Breakfast was excellent but an additional cost!

New owners, pleasant, good-willed people who have to recover from the negative reviews of the previous owners and are working hard on it. Cozy pub with good food. Easily accessible rooms on the ground floor with parking space in front of the door. Near Cambridgeshire. All this for a very reasonable price.

The Black Horse is under new management. The Landlady is so helpful and the rooms are comfortable. The food is good 'pub grub' and the beers we drank were fine. After chatting seems there are upgrade changes coming so we look forward to returning to clock the improvements.

A choice of roast beef or Pork. it was all nicely cooked and generous size portion of meat with plenty of gravy. It was hot and tasty, the separate bowl of cauliflower cheese was a nice touch! Served drinks by warm and friendly lady behind bar. would definately visit again when next in area!

It appears the pub is currently under temporary management and the website and previous reviews are not completely representative of the current state. The room we stayed in was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was stunning. The bathroom was not great, the shower was, sorry, really bad. It was like it hadn't been cleaned for years. It should be ripped out and destroyed. There is a minimal ale selection, Landlord (thats good), and the current food menu is also fairly simple. We didn't eat at the Black Horse, except for breakfast, which was absolutely great. We stayed for two days as planned but I'm afraid we won't be back. The website should really be taken down as it creates a false impression of what to expect.
