Got a free upgrade as the room they had was unavailable. We had a short flight of steps to our accommodation with a great view of Pirates Bay and across the road from the Tessellated Pavement. Modern clean accommodation with a kitchen. A must do is the costal lookouts and Port Arthur. Staff very helpful and had dinner in the restaurant. ( I would pass on the garlic prawns)
I rarely go out of my way to write a review but have loved staying at this place so much (and am so surprised to read some of the negative reviews). I travelled with family so we booked two rooms. For a long weekend it was great value (elsewhere in Hobart, Richmond etc was much pricier). One of our rooms got upgraded to a premium so we had the lovely large verandah to enjoy the view and watch the animals and birds go by. The other was one of the smaller standard rooms, which had a smaller balcony with more limited views (but still great value for the price). The fixtures are quality and comfortable. The rooms themselves just have a pod machine and kettle with a selection of teas. The communal kitchenette has a microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge (plus crockery, cutlery, sink etc). You wouldn't be able to cook big meals there, but was absolutely fine for our purposes. We didn't get to try the restaurant - I really don't like eating out with my young kids - so the first night we just got takeaway from nearby Sorrell and the second night we ate picnic style with things we'd gathered during the day (including some of the fruit from the on-site orchard which we were allowed to pick for free). The playground adjacent to the restaurant was so great, my kids just loved it. But the real highlight was hand feeding the animals. You buy a bucket of feed from reception for $5, but it gets a whole lot of stock feed, kept the little ones busy for ages. They fed sheep, alpacas, a horse and pony plus ducks. We also spotted ducklings, chook with chickens, peacocks with babies and turkeys with babies. The first night we were lucky enough to have the whole pod to ourselves. The second night two more of the rooms were let, but we didn't hear them at all (unless you were in the hall very near the other room). I didn't find it an inconvenience to unload the bags then park 50m away - rather it made it feel safer for my kids to ride their bikes around as there was less traffic moving around near the accommodation. Will return again, that's for sure.
