The hotel is in a good location in the middle of Arundel, near the castle and the river. We stayed on a Saturday night and also had dinner at the hotel. We stayed in room 6, which was a bit small as it’s sold as an ‘Indulgence Room’ and does not even have a wardrobe. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fine, with a nice shower. The hotel menu was good, with a good selection of dishes, and the food was very nice.
We had our wedding breakfast and reception at the Norfolk Arms, and we couldn't be happier. Everything went as well as we could have possibly hoped for, both leading up to and especially on the day. They met and exceeded our expectations, with both the food and service being exemplary and the staff being eager and available any time we needed anything. Especially we were grateful for, when faced with a difficult situation with two of our elderly guests, they bent over backwards to accommodate them and we are extremely pleased with how they handled it. I also have to single out their wedding planner who did amazing work, and we were suitably impressed by her dedication and attention to detail. Without her, and the rest of the staff, the day would not have been the success it ended up being. Of course we were also happy with the room, which had a quaint and historic charm that we hope to be able to more properly enjoy at a future date. Our guests who stayed the night were all happy with the accomodations as well as the breakfast on the following day.

The fire alarm activated on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning (0610). On both occasions I went to the reception to try to get a status update. On both occasions the reception was unmanned but I could see from the public side of the reception desk that the Fire Alarm panel was showing an alarm activation. All fire doors were in the closed position, having been automatically closed once the fire alarm had activated. On both occasions when the manager returned to the reception desk they confirmed that it was a false alarm activated by someone using the shower in one of the rooms. The fire detection system does not appear to be fit for purpose if it falsely activated when someone takes a shower. The manager I spoke with today following the 2nd activation said that they had spoken to a guest and told him to make sure the windows in his room were open if he took a shower. We won’t be staying at this accommodation in the future due to the level of disruption experienced during our stay, together with my concerns over the fire detection system. This is disappointing as the accommodation, although basic, was very clean and reasonably priced.
