LOCATION This hotel sits on its own private island, 45 minutes by boat from the main island. The property is so big you need to use their golf buggy service to get anywhere - restaurants, beach, or other facilities. ARRIVAL The boat pickup went smoothly, and staff at the dock were friendly. However, the hotel doesn't allow other boats to visit unless they pay a big fee, which basically traps you on the island during your stay. ROOM PROBLEMS Our villa was old and needed serious updates: - The shower was unreliable - water kept changing from hot to cold, and pressure was bad - Bathroom tiles were broken and old - They only gave us 2 hangers for clothes (asked for more but never got them) - No hair dryer or iron provided - Lacked any sitting furniture, you had the bed and one chair only - The room felt generally very old and dated FOOD Since you can't leave the island, you have to eat all meals at the hotel. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing: - The hot pot dinner was not good. More so it was bad - Filipino food options were okay, but nothing special - Breakfast was poor quality, despite having a lot of options to choose from - Food quality in general was very low, but reasonably priced - Basic products like Coca Cola Zero or sparkling water were unavailable. Management blamed this on the remote location, but this seems more like poor planning than a genuine logistics issue GOOD POINTS The spa treatments were good, and most staff were friendly. Would recommend that as it was worth the price. The highlight of our stay was an older man working on the beach by the dock. He helped us with the beach amenities and thanks to him, we had the best snorkeling experience with an enormous amount of fish right on the beach. Thank you! SERVICE ISSUES Despite friendly staff, many things went wrong: - They tried to charge us extra for the boat transfer, even though it was included in our booking. Transfer back to the airport was provided by a bigger boat, and a bus, which was cramped with people and bags. Bags were just stacked on the back of the bus and if the bus was to suddenly stop all those heavy bags would fly right towards the passengers - Checking out took forever - do this the night before if you stay here. The morning check-out process involves waiting while they inspect your room, which feels demeaning to guests - We asked for a packed breakfast for our early departure, but never got it despite prior confirmation. Front desk staff was very unhelpful and did not try to fix the issue in any way, embarrasing really OVERALL While the island itself is beautiful, the hotel is poorly run. For the high prices they charge, this isn't acceptable. We stayed at Sangat Island Dive Resort before this, which was much better despite not having all of the amenities of a big resort. MY ADVICE - AVOID I can't recommend this place. Yes, the island is pretty and the staff try their best, but there are too many problems for what you pay. Look else
Upon arrival we were greeted very nicely. Friendly and attentive staff along with a complimentary head massage. We were able to check in to our room early. The pool and both surrounding beaches are nice, with good water and good available snorkelling opportunities. However, lunchtime came. We were informed by the staff that most restaurants required booking in advance (a few hours) and also require pre-ordering. Fine (or so we thought). We ventured up towards the main catering spot of the resort, The Island Cafe. We were very hungry, so decided to order two portions of the chicken quesadillas, the nachos and a chicken Caesar salad. Awful. Quesadillas were beige tasting, the nachos were covered in neon orange flavourless 'cheese' sauce, and the chicken salad was covered in processed dressing. 3/10, but we move, roll on dinner. Dinner time arrived, and we had booked in to the Island Stake house, where we had pre-ordered the beef brisket and tiger prawns, lovely! Upon arrival, we were seated and given our water. After 15 minutes of waiting, we requested some bread for the table. The bread arrived promptly. We asked for some butter to add to the bread, and were informed by two staff members there was no more butter available (despite there being plenty next morning at breakfast), and were given some strawberry jam instead. The brisket was obviously cooked from frozen (very grey in colour with a slight white secretion) and came with a katsu sauce (which wasn't bad in fairness). The tiger prawns were similar, and quite tough, suggesting these were also defrosted before cooking - and were bland, as they were cooked with no garlic, no butter, no salt. 3/10. Breakfast offered an okay but fairly basic spread, quite a simple selection of fruit but a variety of Asian-style dishes. The banana bread and banana muffins were good. Overall, 4/10. Following a fairly dissapointing breakfast, we thought we would order buffalo chicken wings from the bar menu at lunchtime. However, we were informed that on a menu of 10+ items, the only things available were the pizza and the chips. 2/10. The saving grace of the trip came from the Teppanyaki restaurant, which we hadn't realised actually featured the traditional Japanese Teppanyaki-style cooking experience. We had to pre-book, and the majority of items were not available on the menu. However, what we did eat was brilliant. We ate there the two last evenings of our stay. The chef was skilled, and the food was served promptly, along with good service. 8/10. Our feedback to the resort would be to cut back on menus, and focus on doing the things you can consistently cook and stock, a bit better. Also, instead of expanding the resort, invest some TLC into the existing buildings, as some of these are slightly tired. The buggy service is also somewhat unreliable, we were left waiting for 15-20+ minutes some evenings.

We are currently staying at the resort and I really want to do an Instagram vs reality for this place. I would recommend only the Salepan Villas or stay away. All the rest are dirty old cinderblock buildings over the water. They are more concerned about expanding than maintenance at the resort…especially in the older villas. We’ve had nothing but problems with our room and we’ve heard several horror stories from other guests also staying at this resort. A couple of things to mention for families or travelers with kids: No TV (only YouTube) and unpredictable internet. Usually this is not a big deal, but the internet is the only way to call for a buggy ride or get anything and it’s a long walk with two crying kids. Restaurants are ok but have the slowest service we have ever experienced in our 80 countries traveled. When you have your heart set on a particular dish or drink… forget about it since they are out of almost half the menu items. Transfers to the main island are $50 each person. And boat tours from the island are expensive. This place desperately needs an update and new management.
