城堡景觀旅館(Castle View Guesthouse)

Ecclesiastes 11:9 “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; covers everything I think about this lovely bolt hole. Three young people were involved in our breakfast and they were all fabulous. One was an astrophysicist student. Let me tell you this ,he may not answer all the queries about the universe but my good lord he was super friendly and cooks bacon like Gordon Ramsey without the swearing. Was this a one off ? No ! The following day two young ladies cooked poached eggs like Angela Hartnett but with more smiles. Warm room and comfy bed. Kitkat with the hospitality tray. 🥳 Was my older wife happy ? Not a single negative comment .was she dead ? No she lives ! Praise the lord.

A warm welcome from Anne awaits, on a very wet and windy afternoon. We parked and paid for on street parking across the road, no parking at the guest house but Anne gave us a free pass for the following day. Sundays are free. Beautiful decor throughout. We were at the top of the house in room 7. Even though there were plenty of other guests, we didn't hear anyone. The same can't be said for the students who were noisy till around 2 in the morning both nights. Nothing can be done about this, you're in a university city. Breakfast was a preordained at a set time, between 8 and 9am. Very good quality, teas coffees juices fruit yoghurt and full cooked breakfast. I really hate food waste, and this seems to have that eliminated. I've already recommended Castle View to family and friends thinking of visiting Durham.

They do not empty bins or clean the room during your stay with the excuse of COVID. We all are trying to return to some semblance of normality after this pandemic and for us it was a long waited for holiday, only to be ruined by the lackluster attitude of the guest house owners. You have tea and coffee making facilities but they soon run out on the first day never to be refreshed and it feels like you have to fend for yourself for the rest of your stay. Breakfast is minimalist and of poor quality. Second rate service blamed on the pandemic!

A delightful, friendly guest house, perfectly located in the heart of Durham, just a couple of minutes from the city centre and close to the major attractions and the train station. Very helpful and accommodating to all of our requests

Stayed at castle view for 2 nights ,we arrived earlier than the 4pm stated check in time but this wasn't a problem at all, we had a ground floor room (room 1),the room was beautifully decorated with plenty of storage space ,hairdryer was in room and ironing facilities were also available on request .Breakfast was reordered with plenty of choice,the food was of a very high standard too with locally sourced produce I suspect , you could pick what time you wanted to eat between 8am -9am ,the dining room was decorated to a very high standard ,the staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough for you ,I would highly recommend the castle view without a shadow of a doubt .The guesthouse was on a steep hill but that was the only negative .

Everything about Castle view is first class. Beautifully styled & decorated, and ideally situated for the old part of the city. The room we had was very spacious & comfortable with a really high end bathroom. Would definitely recommend & will be staying here again.

We stayed at Church View Guest House for 2 nights and what a good choice it was. Arrived before 4pm check in time but were not able to gain access. Returned at 4pm and this time the door was answered by a gentleman who didn’t introduce himself (looked more surprised if anything). The room was excellent and very clean, my only bug bear is that the bathroom door should have a hook to hang dressing gowns which are provided. Breakfast was excellent cooked by a lovely young man called Marcel who couldn’t do enough and was very helpful. Will definitely stay here again if I visit Durham again.

Perfect stay. Excellent location, well thought out comfortable room, marvellous breakfast, very friendly. If I were to return to Durham I would certainly want to stay at Castle View again. Easy walking distance to every place we wanted to visit.

Lovely welcome from friendly people. Comfy beds and no plastic mattress covers! Room was spacious and beautifully decorated with lots of space for clothing etc. The shower was excellent, lots of hot water. Breakfast well cooked and delicious. The guesthouse is just a few minutes walk from the centre and the views were lovely. There is a rather steep hill to climb up to property as Durham is a very hilly place! But there are benches placed strategically if you need a breather, and you can always pretend that you're looking at the scenery! I would happily return to this guesthouse.
