查茨沃斯酒店(The Chatsworth Hotel)

Fabulous location, very nice ( but chairs are uncomfortable) decor, limited menu for dinner. Both Olivia and Matt, at the front desk, are superb and very helpful. Windows in the rooms can be opened which is nice. The 100 year old lift has very heavy collapsable doors which are difficult to open and shut. In my opinion, not a property for disabled or informed, but they do have a ramp to access the hotel and can be requested.

On the positive side, the staff were friendly, the room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. On the negative side, hotels that aspire to be luxury provide a decent çoffee making machine and a fridge/minibar. I was concerned that the hotel was not following food safety regulations at the breakfast buffet. An issue i raised with the duty manager. When serving hot food the regulation say it should be maintained at a temperature of 63° C at both breakfasts the items were lukewarm, a potential for spreading food poisoning. The selection of breads and pastries was very limited considering that an excellent bakery was only 50 yards away down the next street. (It was open on New Years Eve). At £570 for a two night stay it was not value for money

On the positive side: staff were very friendly and responsive and I was able to check in immediately, even though I was a bit early. The mattress was super comfy and there was a nice selection of pillows. Both the room and bathroom were spacious. On the negative: I don't think I would call this 5* although it has potential. Some surfaces were dusty and both the carpet and the fabric covered drawers on the nightstands had spill stains. The kettle in my room was very calcified so I asked to have it cleaned, and I could tell they tried but it was still a bit crusty when returned. The description indicated coffee and tea maker, but there was only a kettle coffee bags, which was disappointing, and I expected a small refrigerator at a 5* property, but they were able to provide one when I asked. I would also expect a safe in the room and a bathrobe. My room did have the described full sea view, which compensated for the lack of amenites, but I did pay for that. I had higher expectations given the reviews and the 5* rating, so definitely room for improvement.
