翡翠樓旅館(Halcyon House)

The positives of this hotel are position and gracious architecture from the front with spectacular views to the Firth from the entrance. The rates are reasonable. The harsh reality is that this hotel is nothing like the pictures. The bedroom was in a very narrow room similar to a small corridor ( or broom cupboard) and freezing and damp with two portable heaters. The bathroom was derelict and damp with paint peeling off the window frames. The breakfast was very disappointing, bad watery coffee, a hard boiled egg made the night before and a croissant that bore no resemblance to a French pastry. When we arrived we could not check in and had to return at a later time. The sitting room was reminiscent of an old age home and reeked of rather unpleasant room freshener which induced bronchospasm. The highlight was a bookcase filled macabre murder novels… I would not recommend this place, despite the reasonable rates and position. It is a beautiful but tired and run down house that needs complete renovation and has a faulty towers feeling- funny only in retrospect.

Awful from arrival to leaving. We arrived and stood outside for a while before we were let in. Old man with a cane told us to stand at the chair while he got our keys. No welcome what so ever. The room was tiny and in bad need of upgrading. It was also tiny with hardly any room to move. It should have been a single room and not made into a double. It had tea and coffee making facilities in the room but no cups only glasses. No tv but it does tell you that. The shower head was broken and the water sprayed out sideways so we couldnt have a shower. When it was reported the member of staff looked as if he couldnt care less. Breakfast choice was terrible. We ended up with cereal and toast. No cooked food on offer except a hard boiled egg! We left and went to the Wetherspoons around the corner for a fry up. On leaving the staff member took our key without a glance. No thank you for your stay or even a goodbye. A very poor place that has the potential to be so much more. It was one of the cheaper places to stay but dont waste your money. I would gladly pay a bit more to stay somewhere else

DJ from Serbia on the rooftop was phenomenal! He was on top of everything and extremely helpful with all requests. This individual is an asset to your brand and will be successful in whatever he reaches for. Mitch

Very disappointed. Booked this as it was the same price as the Travelodge hotels in the area and they were all expensive on the night I needed. This one tipped the balance as it also included breakfast but sadly the promised full breakfast turned out to be a stale croissant, a small slice of toast and a cold hard boiled egg. Also was in room 14, a lot of stairs carrying a suitcase, no window and actually think it was an old bathroom converted into a bedroom. Also couldn’t use the plug sockets to charge phone etc as they were so close to the floor and sills that my plugs wouldn’t go in!

Would give it 0 stars if could. Avoid at all costs as very unpleasant owners and staff and was made to feel very unwelcome, do not waste money staying here. Needs refurbished and a good clean at the very least.
