Der Bewertung von Kricho weiter unten kann ich mich nur anschließen. Es trifft alles zu. Leider war die Kritik bei unserer Buchung des "Zimmers mit Gartenblick" über ein bekanntes Portal noch nicht erschienen. Angelockt durch die schönen Fotos und die überwiegend positiven Bewertungen haben wir zum Abschluss unsrer organisierten Rundreise eine private Verlängerung mit ein bisschen Luxus zum Entspannen, Genießen und Verwöhnen erhofft. Die Enttäuschung fing schon mit der E-Mail-Kommunikation an, mit der es dem Hotel nicht gelang, detaillierte und prüfbare Angebote für eine Ausflugsfahrt zu übermitteln. Auch der Wunsch nach einer brauchbare Empfehlung für eine Winetram-Tour mit Angabe der besten Linien, ihre Abfahrt- und Rückfahrzeiten, etwaige Reservierungserfordernisse, Umsteigemöglichkeiten und empfehlenswerte Stopps für Weinproben wurde nicht erfüllt. Stattdessen bin ich während unserer Rundreise aufgefordert worden, Kopien unserer Reisepässe an das im voraus bezahlte Hotel zu schicken! Da die positiven Eigenschaften des Hotels ausreichend und zutreffend dargestellt sind, möchte ich ergänzend nur die folgenden Erfahrungen beschreiben: Der Eindruck und das Interieur des Hauses sind real deutlich dunkler als auf den Fotos. Wir stellten ernüchtert fest, dass unser Zimmer keinen Gartenblick hatte. Einen Gartenblick gibt es nur bei dem vom Hotel so bezeichneten "Gardenroom", das wir mit unserer Buchung auch erwartet hatten. Wir erhielten jedoch das vom Hotel als "Courtyard Room" benannte Zimmer. Hier hat uns das Buchungsportal in die Irre geführt. Den im Zimmer stehenden, ungekühlten Weißwein wollten wir zum Trost nicht trinken, sondern ließen ihn zur Kühlung in die Küche bringen, da ein Kühlschrank im Zimmer fehlte. Die Ausstattung und Einrichtung im Zimmer war alt, einfach und unpraktisch, nicht etwa antik und wertvoll. Im unbeleuchteten Kleiderschrank stand ein kleiner Safe ohne Display, so dass man sich auf der Tastatur leicht vertippen konnte. Alle Holzfenster und -türen waren mit alten Riegeln und Haken schwergängig und wenig vertrauenerweckend. Das Schloss der Zimmertür konnte nur mit Bücken oder in der Hocke betätigt werden. Am Spiegel des Badezimmers fehlte eine Steckdose, so dass man sich dort nicht föhnen kann. Alle Steckdosen befanden sich tief in der Nähe des Fußbodens. Zum Lesen ungeeignet war auch die Beleuchtung auf den Nachttischen. Das Frühstücksbüffet, das auf dem Esstisch für alle Gäste angerichtet war, enthielt sogar Räucherlachs und viel Obst. Es dauerte jedoch gefühlt eine Ewigkeit, bis die gewünschte Scheibe nicht-getoastetes Brot gebracht wurde. Mehrfach haben wir nach dem in Südafrika verbreiteten Sourbread gefragt. Auch am letzten Tag blieb unser Wunsch unerfüllt. Der Service ließ sich am Nachmittag im Garten nicht blicken. Als wir dann in der Küche um einen Tee baten, wurde nicht gefragt, wie wir ihn denn trinken möchten. Auch ein paar Kekse wurden nicht dazu gelegt. An zwei Tagen wurden nachmittags unaufgef

First impressions revealed a lovely setting with a large lily pond by the side of the driveway. The property looked very inviting with a beautiful thatched roof. Agree with previous reviews that everything is immaculately presented. There’s a central dining hall which leads onto the garden and pool. Beyond the garden is the vineyard, and a delightful walk down to 2 ponds. We saw large carp in one pond. Also within the grounds is a tennis court, too hot mid Summer to play. Ian prepared the most delicious braai which was served in a shaded part of the garden. Really memorable evening spent in great company. Would highly recommend La Cle I hope to visit again next year. Gayho and all the staff were highly attentive and made our visit to this lovely part of Franschhoek a delight.

We stayed at La Cle Lodge for two nights as part of our honeymoon and could not recommend it enough. The lodge is absolutely beautiful and has such a welcoming, cosy and familial atmosphere. We stayed in for dinner one evening which is a communal set-up with everyone eating together round the dining table - this usually wouldn’t be our sort of thing but the food was exceptional and the staff created such a lovely atmosphere with relaxing background music and a roaring fire. Our room itself was perfect - beautiful decor, a large comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom with a great shower. The location is also perfect - just one street away from the main street of Franschoek and a 5 minute walk from the wine tram terminal.

Le Clé is a lovely small hotel with a warm staff situated a short walk to town. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed. The common areas are beautiful. Relaxing by the pool in the afternoon is just the place to rest before heading out to dinner. The staff are helpful and responsive. They will arrange reservations, car services, etc. all done with a smile. Breakfast at the community table each morning was plentiful and enjoyable as everyone shared their day and evening before which helped to plan/modify our day ahead. The dinner at Le Cle was family style and delicious. Le CLe was a wonderful respite in the Wine Lands before we began a long trek home.

We had the most beautiful stay at Le Clé in Franschhoek! From start to finish, everything was flawless. The lodge offered the perfect balance of privacy and accessibility — a safe, secluded retreat that was still within walking distance to everything in town. The accommodations were spotless, chic, and thoughtfully designed, with every detail making the space feel both luxurious and welcoming. It even smelled incredible throughout! The service and staff were outstanding — so attentive and genuinely warm. A special shoutout to Ghano and Ian for going above and beyond to make our experience extra special. This little slice of wine country heaven exceeded all expectations. We can’t wait to return!

We spent three nights at La Clé Lodge in early June and honestly, it was one of the most memorable getaways we’ve had. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel completely at home—warm, welcoming, and genuinely keen to make our stay special. A huge shoutout to Gahno, who was an absolute legend—organising dinner bookings, transfers, and giving us top-notch local recommendations. The lodge itself is stunning—classic Cape Dutch charm with beautifully styled suites and lush gardens. It’s got that perfect mix of laidback luxury and homely comfort. We loved kicking back with sundowners by the fire after a day out and about. We took the bikes for a spin through the vineyards—such a fun way to explore the area—and even squeezed in a hit of tennis on the gorgeous court. It was the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. The shared curry dinner was a real highlight, which was packed with flavour and felt like a warm hug after a cool evening, and being able to unwind with new friends was awesome. Every meal was delicious, and the service was spot on. La Clé is one of those places that just gets it right. Whether you’re into wine, food, art, or just want to unwind in beautiful surroundings, this place ticks all the boxes. We left feeling totally recharged and already planning our next visit.

This is definitely a home from home place. The team looking after us were very friendly and welcoming with great thought clearly put into the rooms, arrangements, food and facilities. The standard of accommodation is excellent, with a pool outside, vineyard and gardens and a lake at the bottom! Good location within the town, with a very easy walk to the restaurants, boutiques and shops. A special place.

This is a very special place indeed. It is beautiful with very personal service and is of the highest quality. It is located within easy walking distance of the centre of Franschhoek and yet manages not to feel urban at all. It has beautiful outdoor spaces with a lovely pool and seated area, vineyards, tennis court, pond etc. Check in was very warm and friendly and yet highly professional. All the staff were similar, with every interaction feeling genuinely personable and not at all artificial. The public areas indoors are all lovely too with a comfortable sitting room. There was cake served late afternoon and then complementary drinks early evening. The bedrooms were also finished to a very high spec. Everything was clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was served at one large table which seated everyone. It was again of the highest standard. I would very highly recommend this hotel. It was exactly what we were hoping from Franschhoek.

Awesome boutique hotel. We will not look at other lodging options in Franschoek again. Personalized service, perfect location, thoughtful blend between guest mingling and privacy - you have personal space but also can share communal traveling experiences. Individual villas available as well for those who prioritize privacy but we enjoyed the lodge. Sundowners by the pool were a highlight, and huge shoutout to Ian who provided some of the best service we’ve experienced. He felt more like a friend by the end of our stay.

This lodge provides its lucky guests with a superb experience. We stayed for three nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The staff were all very friendly under the expert management of Lizel and Clifford. The complimentary Sundowners served by Ian were an unexpected treat and the breakfast and evening Brie were delicious. If you want a real treat we highly recommend La Cle Lodge.

Franschhoek was the 2nd leg of our honeymoon in South Africa and La Clé represented the perfect stay. Clifford welcomed us with homemade iced tea and that was a sign of things to come. The room was absolutely stunning and the double shower head in the bathroom was a revelation. The grounds of La Clé are picture perfect with a chipping green, a tennis court and fantastic views of the Franschhoek valley. The breakfasts were faultless and the complimentary sundowners around the heated pool every day were a lovely touch. It is a 9 minute walk from the famous Franschhoek Terminal (where you catch the wine tram/bus) and it is a great location for the restaurants in the town itself. The staff went over and above to send us on our way on our transfer day with a 'packed breakfast' box each given we were too early for the normal breakfast. Thanks to Clifford and team for making our stay so special.

A little touch of heaven! So comfortable, with the most beautiful gardens, we absolutely loved it. Very close to the town but so peaceful and relaxing. Our room was in the attic so I was concerned it might be a bit dark, but not at all! Light, spacious, with every luxury you could want! Highly recommend.

Wow! Such a treat staying 2 nights at La Cle Lodge! Such a lovely, beautiful property and I felt well care for while there. The staff were very attentive to me being a solo traveler. They provided a wonderful dinner suggestion for me at Protege (delicious) and as I had to leave very early the morning of my departure, provided me with a very robust breakfast. The property is gorgeous and so relaxing. I do wish I could've stayed to enjoy it longer. The room was perfect for me, the bed comfortable, the bathroom luxurious. The pool phenomenal and I enjoyed my relaxing afternoon there after walking into the town which is easy to do. I would definitely stay at La Cle again!

Plucked out of *********** for our final night of honeymoon. No expectations, but the pictures on the site and the booking websites do not do this place justice. Amazing lodge, but with grounds that go on for days to just stroll around the vineyards. Amazing and attentive staff, just the most amazing end to our Cape Town trip.
