I am extremely disappointed with the way my guests and I were treated during our recent visit to Wildflower Farms. I have been here twice before and always enjoyed sitting on the Great Porch for drinks and lunch — relaxing on the couches and taking in the beautiful view. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different and shockingly unpleasant. We arrived from the parking lot behind another family and were told by the receptionist that the porch is first come, first serve. Since it was full at that moment, we were advised to check in with the restaurant to see what they could offer. At the restaurant, two women politely explained that the restaurant menu was closed until dinner but they could offer us seating at the bar or lounge with the Great Porch menu — which sounded perfectly fine. However, as I turned to confer with my group, a young woman wearing a bandana suddenly appeared and inserted herself in front of the two women we were speaking with. She asked if we were staying at the resort (we were not) and if we had a reservation (we did not). She then abruptly told us that they could not accommodate us because they were at capacity. This was completely baffling, as the lounge was empty and the bar had several open seats. When we pointed that out and said we would simply sit at the bar, she replied, “The bar is quite crowded,” which was simply untrue. We walked out, only to see that a table on the porch had just opened up. Since the porch is first come, first serve, we sat down. Moments later, the same young woman came outside and told us, “You misunderstood me — we cannot accommodate you anywhere.” We were stunned. Two staff members had already told us we could sit, yet she seemed determined to prevent us from enjoying ourselves. When we questioned her again, she offered a hollow apology. One of us asked, “Are you really sorry?” and her response was, “I don’t make enough to be sorry.” That statement was beyond unprofessional — it was insulting. To make matters worse, as we walked back to the reception desk, another party immediately sat down at the exact same table without issue. The receptionist once again confirmed that the porch is indeed first come, first serve, making the entire situation even more frustrating. For a property that has been named the #1 Resort in New York by Travel + Leisure (2025), this was a shockingly poor display of hospitality and communication. We were singled out and treated unfairly for no apparent reason, while others were welcomed without question. This experience ruined our afternoon and left a lasting negative impression. I’ve enjoyed Wildflower Farms in the past and recommended it to friends, but after this treatment, I will not be returning — and I certainly won’t be recommending it to anyone.

I’ve rated the experience 2/5 because the food at Clay Restaurant was well prepared & flavorful but otherwise unremarkable & disappointing. First, the reservation & restaurant staff knew it was a birthday celebration in advance & there was no mention during or after our meal even though I was told they would make sure it would be memorable. Second, I called in advance to change the guest count for lunch from 3 to 5 and was told they could not make the accommodation bc they reserve seating for in-house guests and they were at full capacity. Understandable, right?…so I had to disinvite the two other guests. When we arrived they seated us in a corner banquette that could have easily fit two more chairs - and the restaurant was literally almost empty. Clay is a cavernous space that can seat 100 people. Yet there were only 2 groups of what looked like tour bus groups and a scattering of 2-tops. That’s it’s. The food was delicious. We wanted to try 3 appetizers to share but the server thought 2 were adequate so we ordered the beets, prepared 3 ways in one dish; the charred baby carrots (some of which were burnt), and the portions were small enough that we could have tried a 3rd; as entrees, spinach and avocado salad with a lovely vinaigrette dressing, turkey sandwich that came with salad & fries, & the cavatelli pasta dish. The presentation was simple, the service polite but nothing notable. I looked forward to visiting this property for over a year and overall, it was extremely disappointing. When I expressed dismay to the restaurant manager (Amy) she simply responded with a blank stare to ask for her the “next time”. She could clearly care less. I’ve stayed at Auberge du Soleil & Solage Calistoga in Napa Valley and the experience was excellent, service impeccable and overall, delightful. I’ve worked for Rosewood properties in the Caribbean, served as director of catering at Caneel Bay Resort & lived at Little Dix Bay & The Mansion on Turtle Creek during renovations, all of which exemplify hospitality industry high end standards of excellence. Wildflowers Resort & Clay do not live up to the Auberge name and do not even try. Sorry.

I went to Wildflower Farms with my long term girlfriend and planned to propose. I worked with the resort and purchased a flower and champagne arrangement to be delivered at a certain time and they completely missed it. I brought it up to them and they offered to deliver it at a different time. They were barely apologetic that they missed such a precious moment for us. For the price, I expected more care towards the guests.

I have been to many Auberge properties and usually have a fantastic time. This time, did not live up to the expectation. The spa was good and the property itself was beyond beautiful but staff was subpar.

From the warm welcome by the Grangers to our final departure, Wildflower Farms exceeded our expectations at every turn. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, from the seamless itinerary preparation to the insightful site inspection with Ana. Highlights of our visit included an incredible yoga class with Melissa and the outstanding food and beverage offerings at the restaurant—each experience was truly unforgettable. We feel so fortunate to have been part of such an exceptional journey and can’t wait to return!

I booked a birthday trip for my wife and we stayed for three days and two nights. Wildflower farms exceeded are already high expectations. We had incredible meals at Clay and the best massages of our lives at the spa. We really enjoyed feeding the chickens one morning, and the apple cider donut making class was super fun, although it was a bit pricey. We absolutely enjoyed our stay, and plan to return for my birthday over the summer. I rarely leave reviews, but feel inclined given how incredible our experience was.
