I had an amazing time—truly lucky to witness two leatherback turtles, and it was absolutely breathtaking. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and ensured everyone in the group had the best possible experience. The staff were wonderful—so kind, attentive, and committed to meeting the needs of myself and my two cousins. For future consideration, it might be exciting to expand this experience for those of us who don’t live here but are deeply enthralled by leatherbacks. Perhaps live‑stream footage using night‑vision cameras during the nesting season could allow us to log in and share the magic from afar. I will definitely be back. My partner and myself stayed for 1 night. Staff rating - 5/5 Staff was very welcoming upon arrival, ensuring that we were well taken care off. Any questions we had were quickly answered and all efforts were made for our stay to be memorable. Room 5/5 Room was in immaculate condition. The smell was amazing, room was tidy and well kept. All bathroom amenities were in place (Shampoo, Conditioner, Hand Wash, Body Wash and Body lotions) were mounted to the walls. The Scent selection by local artisan Galt & Maree was perfect. Bathroom and toilet area was very clean and room came prepared with extra towels, wash cloths, face towels, blankets etc. Grounds 5/5 The grounds were meticulously maintained and created a clean yet very natural feeling. There was a heated pool for the perfect night swim if needed. Food 5/5 Local food done well. Fresh fruit juices, coconut water, hot cocoa, salt fish, tomatoes choka, coconut bake etc. Buffet style/local style. The Main Attraction (Leatherback Turtles) A beautiful experience. Words cannot describe how amazing this adventure and life into the Turtle world was. Book your tour through the hotel, they take care of everything so you can relax and be educated. From handling the hatchlings to collecting them to release later to witnessing the female coming on shore to lay her eggs. The experience was all breathtaking. All staff were very accommodating, friendly and go out their way for you to create new memories. Shoutout to the Pawi Lodge and team on Sunday 5th June, the driver and his coworker were friendly and educated as they shared their experiences and insights with us. I like that all the people we interacted with were from the local community. It was the perfect feeling of home away from home. Will visit again soon. Thank you for an amazing stay and experience. The hotel and staff take great care to provide an outstanding experience for guests while prioritizing the safety and well being of the turtles that use hotel shores for nesting. The red lighting at night takes a little getting used to but serves a very important purpose for nesting turtles and hatchlings. I suggest purchasing a small red light (you can buy very small ones that fit on your finger like a ring or bigger ones like a flashlight…. You don’t need much extra light but it was helpful to use when walking the grounds at night.) Don’t bring a regular bright white flashlight - and don’t use the light on your phone - as it disrupts the turtles on the beach. Rooms are unique and “spa-like”, with spare / minimal decor and comfortable beds and pillows. Food was exceptional. Staff friendly, professional, and eager to be of assistance. Would definitely stay here again and / or recommend.

The room was comfortable and functional. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Check in and out was a breeze and the included meal options were quite nice.

The service is good, the place is calm, relax, clean with many amenities, there are many room with different sizes and view. There are kayaks, boat, the best experience is the turtles tours

This hotel has been on my radar since I visited Grande Riviere in 2022. Finally, in June 2026 we booked for a one-night stay at the Mt. Plaisir Hotel. It was incredible, and worth every dollar! From the minute we arrived till we left, we were treated with top tier service and beautiful smiles from all employees. I was initially told that we would have gotten a pool view room due to the place being booked up, but upon arrival we were placed in the best oceanfront family room! The room was very luxurious…so clean, comfortable and modern! We had the most comfortable king bed in a private room, and one king bed and two queen sized beds on the outer room area. I have never had so many towels, blankets and pillows to use at a hotel. I would rate this hotel space as the best in Trinidad and Tobago in terms of cleanliness, modernity, beauty and comfort. I wished that we had booked for longer. All meals, drinks and treats were delicious and none of us were left with any bad tastes after our meals…only big bellies! I would suggest that the hotel adds more local desserts to their menu…especially homemade ice cream. One of the main activities we booked was the hybrid turtle tour which allowed us to observe turtle hatchlings hatching and being released into the ocean around sunset and then the mama turtles nesting throughout the night. We have two toddlers and a baby so it was most convenient being able to put them to bed and have access to the turtles literally a few steps away. Another highlight for me was finding the last mama turtle heading back into the ocean around 5:45 am. It was such a surreal experience! My kids thoroughly enjoyed kayaking, playing in the beautiful river and beach shore. This is my new go to, dream staycation! Thank you for such an amazing, perfect stay Mt. Plaisir Hotel!

We stayed at Mt. Plaisir for one night as part of a turtle watching trip to Grande Riviere and it became one of the highlights of our Caribbean holiday. The drive there is long and winding, but absolutely worth it once you arrive. The setting is stunning — rainforest-covered mountains behind you and the huge beach directly in front of the hotel. It feels peaceful, remote and completely unspoilt. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay, the room was comfortable, and the food in the restaurant was excellent. Sitting outside in the evening listening to the waves crashing onto the beach was incredibly relaxing. The most memorable moment came later that night when reception phoned our room to let us know a turtle had arrived on the beach. We met the guide and were taken down in the dark to watch a giant leatherback turtle dig her nest, lay her eggs, carefully cover them again and then slowly make her way back towards the Atlantic Ocean. It was handled respectfully by the guides and felt like a genuine privilege to witness. What made it even more atmospheric was the beach at night itself — almost completely dark apart from the sound of the waves, the stars above and tiny fireflies glowing around us while we stood quietly watching this extraordinary animal. The following morning we walked along the beach and were lucky enough to see another turtle returning to the sea. Watching the vultures circling overhead, the stray dogs wandering the shoreline and the waves breaking across the vast empty beach gave the whole place a wonderfully wild and natural feel. Mt. Plaisir combines comfort, great food and a beautiful setting with one of the most unforgettable wildlife encounters we’ve ever had. Grande Riviere feels remote and untouched, yet the hotel itself still feels special and indulgent. We’re very glad we made the trip.

Amazing experience - Lydia & the rest of the staff were friendly & helpful. The food was delicious and I loved the variety of local fruit that was available daily. Kayaking on the river was quite relaxing - being immersed in nature. Our turtle watching tour guide Carmichael was knowledgeable & ensured that we had a wholesome experience. I had the best sleep I've had in a while, and loved my ocean view in the morning. Highly recommend.
