葛特納格林史密斯酒店(Smiths at Gretna Green Hotel)

Stayed one night after a last minute decision to have a trip to Gretna for the outlets. Room was fine at first glance but absolutely roasting. Opening the window meant constant traffic noise from the motorway and closing the window meant suffocating in the stifling heat. Rooms were advertised as having air conditioning but it hadn’t been fitted yet. Headed to the bar and the prices were eye watering. Ordered a chicken burger, fish and chips, onion rings and 2 pints and nearly fell over when it came to £55. Supposedly a 2 AA rosette dining experience. Might be 2 AA rosette prices but certainly not that in quality. Salty burned fish and cold curry marinated chicken strips in a bun. Hardly haute cuisine. The A La Carte menu looked very good but quite pretentious and very expensive. Reported to a staff member about someone’s children running around unsupervised while the parents got drunk outside and was greeted by a shrug of the shoulders. Asked for a bottle of water from the bar and was charged £4.50 for a litre bottle. Breakfast was equally as disappointing and all in all it was fine I suppose without being great. Style over substance and cashing in on the wedding market. Definitely not boutique like they claim to be. It’s not totally terrible but probably better value elsewhere in the area.

After visiting Ireland, on our way home, we stayed at Smith's at Gretna Green. This, by far was the worst place we stayed throughout our holiday. The ensuite smelt of urine, light bulbs not working, flush ceiling lights hanging down, noise of motorway ( which is close), air conditioning didn't work, iron / iron board which is supplied in room, burnt my polo shirt, because of sole being coated in?, and then by chance ,found anther brand new iron in the room, the pork belly we had for our evening meal was inedible, we could go on, after wonderful hotels and b&bs in Ireland and a fantastic holiday, after looking forward to staying there ,what a massive let down.

Very nice hotel overall. Naturally of course there are lots of weddings going on, but that's what Gretna is famous for, but even for a business traveller was a good location to stop for a couple of nights. Lovely room, food, service and all round very nice place to stay

We married on 20th May, stayed in cottage No. 6 at Smiths. Brilliant stay, 3 nights. Beds comfy, rooms clean.1 Food at Smiths was excellent. The staff from top to bottom we so helpful, gracious, kind, chatty and friendly and could not do enough...bar 1. The staff over at The Bla Smiths also great, nothing too much trouble, our day was magical. We were checking out on the morning off the 22nd. Scottish receptionist, Amanda or Joanne was her name...what a misery, unfriendly, no smiles, nothing! What a shame we had to leave on a bad note. Gill and Mike Matthews.

Well not a nice experience . The weather was so nice but the lunch experience less so. No greeting smile or eye contact on arrival although passed a number of times by members of staff. Waited over 20 mins to be offered drinks ..and longer for menus. Food came ..however the gentleman was engaging and spent time with us. The food ..I have to say this has to be the worst ceaser salad I have ever had ..not if you are a rabbit..overload of lettuce ..chicken was tough ..and no parmasan at all ... What an expense for a simple dish. My partners pie wasn't hot either.. Oh we were brought our soft drinks in pint glasses..! Will not be lunching again .. Pity . Nice environment, but no life or love felt.

Had a lovely 1 night stay in one of the family rooms. Room was spacious, little boy loved that he had his own separate area with TV. Beds were amazingly comfy. Breakfast was delicious, our son is still raving about how nice it was. Staff were pleasant and very helpful during breakfast service and checkin was fast and efficient. Would 100% recommend

Hotel was easy to find. Check in was quick. Room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. We booked as part of a wedding package so had a bottle of prosecco in the room on arrival. Breakfast was nice. The place we got married in was across the road so the hotel was conveniently located.

The general feel of this hotel is very much service driven and staff perform in positive and helpful manner. The problem we had was with the smell in our room. We attended a wedding celebration and only accessed our room late evening. The smell was quite disturbing. This was highlighted to a member of staff, who agreed to inspect the room with me. She agreed that something was not right and would speak to maintenance. I left it at that, not wanting to lay on a guilt trip or push for a refund, however I did expect some kind of recompense. Nothing forthcoming. Other reviews highlight a bad smell..! Not good enough and expectations not met.

We stayed in the bensmoor suites which are lovely. The rooms were adequate we were happy with it. Only issue was the air con unit made a few rattle noises in the night. The other facilities are great, didn’t use the oven as only stayed one night but it’s a great little place, the food at the hotel was lovely in the evening, breakfast was Ok I’ve had worse but I’ve also had better. Otherwise a lovely find and we will be recommending to others.
