My family and I just traveled to St Barth for a week, staying in one of the Eden Rock Villas (La Maison Rouge). It was our first time renting a villa, which we did because we wanted a pool, kitchen, better layout for a group, etc. We booked the villa and signed our rental agreement through the Eden Rock Hotel. We received a private eden rock concierge, who was wonderful leading up to our trip. They stayed in contact with us, booked our spa appointments at the hotel, made reservations, lined up a private boat excursion, handled our car rental for the week, stocked our villa with groceries, etc. Anything we needed, they made happen and were quick to respond. When we finally got to St Barth, the hotel concierge picked us up from the airport and took us to our villa. It was a very quick drop off, we were given two remotes to open the gate to the villa, as the villa was completely gated in and that was the only was to get in and out of the villa (or so we thought). We were made to feel like we were (and our belongings) completely safe within the villa. We had a long day of travel and were pretty hungry, so we did some light unpacking and then went to dinner close by. We were gone from the villa about 1 hour and 30 minutes, immediately returning and going to bed. We stayed around the villa for a while the following day, and at around 12:00, noticed that two members in our group Rolex watches were missing. When we reached out to the concierge about the missing watches, he came to villa and called the police. While we were waiting for the police, we learned from the hotel concierge that the same thing happened to the villa next door and that there were multiple other robberies on the island over the last few months…one robbery where the entire safe was stolen out of the villa. Our first question was how did they get in…the gate remotes or the gate code is the only way to get into the villa? The concierge explained that they could have easily gotten in through the back garden. This would have all been very helpful information to hear at check in and I feel like we were given a very false sense of security. The police came to the villa and we walked them through what happened and where the watches were, etc. We were told that we would need to go to the police station the next morning to file police reports. The Eden Rock hotel sent someone from the hotel to go to the police station with us to be our translator because the police only speak French on the island. We spent about 3 hours in the police station that morning completing the police report. For the remainder of the trip (the next 6 days), we did not hear one word from the hotel management regarding the matter, nor did we see or hear from our private concierge again until the end of the trip when it was time to arrange airport pickup. When we needed chairs on the beach, we did send him a message on WhatsApp and he did respond immediately and was willing to assist us with whatever we needed.
