First off, Homer does NOT have a quaint little downtown to walk around etc. So many folks walk around The Spit which has a multitude of small shops and restaurants that appeal to cruise ship folks and people with kids. One can opt to stay down there but it's rather industrial as well. I visited during the Shoulder Season so it was empty. Meanwhile on Ocean Drive Loop, there is the quaint Homer Inn & Spa. At first glance, it might catch you off-guard. It's self check-in. You walk into a 'lobby' entrance that has a cute kitchen and gift shop. You are given a map of the place so you will know your room AND a code for the lock on that room. The views of the Cook Inlet are incredible and the mountain range is epic. The hot tubs have great views as well. You will 'schedule' a time for privacy. The rooms are well-appointed, perhaps over appointed with decor but everything is there from a cork screw, wine glasses, cocktail glasses, a coffee maker, microwave, etc. If you don't see it in your room, it's downstairs in the kitchen. They also provide a nice little breakfast 'bag'. Chobani yogurt (yes, high protein, low sugar) with some granola, fruit and a muffin. Again, no staff is there so YOYO but easy enough. If you want to purchase anything, it's on the honor system. The place is immaculate. While Homer is not really walkable one can find good restaurants and shops nearby. We checked out The Kannery for dinner and it also has a great view and excellent food. Not sure I'd bring young children here but otherwise fantastic.
