This August I stayed at Phaedra Hotel on Hydra island and I enjoyed a wonderful time there. The hotel is an old mansion that has become a very charming small boutique hotel. Kyria Hilda made me feel very welcome upon arrival, and throughout my stay of two weeks. She speaks many languages (among which Perfect French) and every morning we had nice exchanges before I wandered out for my day. I had a very spacious, elegantly furnished room downstairs, which opened onto a small patio full of pots of plants, mostly basil( no mosquitoes!!). The room had an en suite bathroom and a small « kitchen » equipped with a fridge and tea or coffee making facilities. Breakfast was scrumptious and with a different selection of homemade pies ( tiropita and spanakopita…. Etc..), bread, croissant, fresh fruit, a boiled egg, Greek yoghurt and honey, fresh fruit juice…. And the home made jams made me think of my mum’s and grandma’s jams…..they were excellent. The terrace on the first floor is very nice and gives you amazing views of the town. This hotel is a gem, it is situated in a quiet part of the town, close to the harbour and local tavernas. I strongly recommend it. If you have never been to Hydra, Kyria Hilda will recommend things to do and if you are interested, she will tell you a lot about Hydra, and more generally about Greek traditions and customs. Precious!
