After reading the reviews I was dreading coming to the hotel. We were originally booked into the malthouse but had to rearrange the dates, Ashley Manager at the malthouse very kindly rebooked us in at the swan hotel as there was no availability at the malthouse. Then I read the reviews, it's true stairs to the rooms are a little narrow and carpet a little worn. Our room however was lovely, overlooking the river severn. A large room , very bright, old beams. The room and bathroom were clean. The bath did have a handheld shower which isn't ideal however I was expecting this after reading the reviews and it wasn't a big deal. The location is perfect for the Ironbridge and a very short walk to shops and restaurants. We booked breakfast and that was at the malthouse a 2 minute walk away which was no bother and breakfast was very good. Good quality sausage and bacon and my husband upgraded to the gorge breakfast for £3 and it was huge. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was served promptly. We also ate lunch at the swan hotel, max who served us was really friendly and the food was really good. We will definitely return next year. A very pleasant stay. Big plus they have parking.

We booked the hotel for a two night stay, for the location and car parking. The only positive was the car parking space. On arrival to the pub your heart sinks at the state of the car park, you are greeted with old fridges and old rotten mattresses, which when looked online have been there for over 8 months. Check in - big announcement breakfast is not served at property but the pub three doors away - not mentioned on booking site or their own website. Then you get to walk through the back of hotel up very loose and unsafe stairs, carpet unclean, poor decoration. You think this can not get any worse unfortunately it does. We booked a family room as only one available room 8 which is at the back of hotel. We thought ok it is only for a couple of nights and we would be out most of the day. The room - bathroom - both taps in bathroom leaked and there was brown water staining on sink which we cleaned, large crack in sink, dirty floor in bathroom, advertised as having a shower which it did have a shower head connected to the bath, but not shower holder or curtain so if you used it it would wet the bathroom floor. Bedroom only one bedside lamp, no mattress protector, duvet heavy and old, no black out blinds the room does not have windows only ceiling lights so at 4.30am we where both awake. Dirty stain on walls, didn’t use kettle as thick dust and water left in kettle so wasn’t brave enough to look, just wanted to get out and go home. Spoke to a member of staff who said he was a representative of the company and would take concerns on board, but quite honestly looking at reviews nothing is changing, such a shame as the pub up the road which is owned by the same company/person is in a different league. Do not stay here, save your money and go somewhere else.

Wipe your feet on the way out! Staff young and not interested and do the bare minimum. Bed had a foot end and had to sleep diagonally. Carpet was stinking on the stairs in particular. Shower was on a lead from the bath taps and was under the eaves so had no chance of standing up.

They were happy to provide a gluten free breakfast. Comfortable stay in a l convenient location.

Really poor service. Waited an age for food when the pub was really quiet. No apology. When the food came out there was no offer of condiments or cutlery so had to ask and the server/barman just pointed to them on an upturned beer barrel. The cutlery was wooden chip forks (2 left) and didn’t come out during the meal to see if everything was ok with the food. Which it wasn’t. It was cold and j cooked and left a £17 burger.

Very poor room quality, beds not comfortable. The bathroom is dirty, there is a spider's web on the ceiling. In total, a lot of dust is dirty. Old equipment. Dirty dirty everywhere
