Decent hotel for budget travelers to Nepal, not for good room lovers

Staff is very nice and accommodating, especially thanks to Rinjen for being extremely friendly and helpful, making my visit so enjoyable. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of menu choices...so yummy!! Highly recommend. The location is great for getting around Thamel where you could find my great restaurants, bars and shopping area. It was my favorite place during my stay in Kathmandu. Extremely pleasant stay and I would definitely stay there again.

Our stay was a blend of positives and considerations. Warm hospitality, cleanliness, and the charm of the Markham Restaurant were highlights, along with the helpful and friendly management. Yet, the absence of certain amenities might require improvement in the otherwise centrally located gem.

It is an excellent stay with great food and a nice room, and it is very worth the price. The service was very excellent. The staff and front desk are very friendly and speak great English. Overall I had an amazing stay with Potala. Really recommended for anyone who's visiting Nepal

Everything was great, the location, the people - so kind - the rooms with beds confortable, the bathroom with toilet and shower - very clean -the travel agency (Bibek was very helpful). I love it and I would certainly choose it again. Thank you so much Potala Guesthouse.

A lovely hotel located very centrally in the amazing city of Kathmandu. Good rooms with western style shower rooms, lovely courtyard area with heaters to make a January evening comfortable and an easy 1km walk from Durbar Square. Helpful and happy staff who are always willing to help.

Fantastic Staff who are extremely helpful. Clean rooms with good facilities including excellent Wifi. Loved the food at the restaurant with great service! Try the Nepali Thali and Soups (Veg) and you will fall in love with the place.

We/ I as group stayed at Potala guest house before commencing our hike to EBC. all staff are super friendly, always greeted us with a big wide smile and made us feel very welcome! The restaurant within the hotel has lovely brekkie to kickstart our day! The rooms are cleaned to a high standard and have a massive wide window which I loved!! Beds very comfy and cute lightbulb lighting!

Our travel agent booked us into Potala Guesthouse for our Kathmandu R+R (and Recovery) days after our 3 week trek to Gyoko and EBC and it was GREAAT!!! we regained our sanity here after 3 weeks of cold, no showers, breathlessness (in all sense of the word), mountain sickness and unforgettable experiences! It was THE hotel for recovery in the middle of bustling and busy Thamel. Super clean, rooms were spacious (select rooms in their extended wing not facing the road so its quiet), beds were very comfortable, showers were HOT and AWESOME, breakfast was delicious in the trendy cafe and staff were welcoming and friendly! The hotel had a nice foyer area with calming small pools and a hip outdoor eating and chill area. They even offered better money exchange rates. Oh i do want to make special mention about the travel agency located there (where i booked a paragliding trip in Pokhara following my recovery in Kathmandu) - Sahara Nepal Treks and Expedition. The friendly guy there, Bibek (his uncle runs the company) was super helpful and helped me book and make changes to my paragliding bookings (to suit my budget but still one of the top choices). He also very kindly helped to book my bus and air ticket back to and from Pokhara and even gave me slight discounts. Totally recommend the agency so check it out if you stay at Potala - 100% reliable and great service -before, during and after!

This 3-star hotel more than fulfills my expectations. Prices are very fair, especially with the older rooms. I have tried two rooms and both were very clean. Sure some noise from the street, but very manageable. Restaurant is a hidden gem! The Western food is delicious, just like the Asian food. They have an excellent chef and the prices are below the value. Without exception the staff are wonderfully helpful. I'm coming back here, and we have extended our stay here for another six days.

I've stayed here a couple of times over the years and it was very pleasant every time. The rooms are great, breakfast is good, you have a lovely freshly renovated Café with great cake, a lovely communal area and a little upstairs terrace. The location could not be better, in the heart of Thamel. What I liked most are the people who work here. It's like coming home every time. They are super friendly and it's always very nice to chat after a day outside. They are super helpful and know the area so well. I really recommend staying here.

Let me begin with the a big thank you! i had booked the hotel for my twin sisters. They were travel-ling to kathmandu for their birthday. Their first visit. Potala guest house located in the middle of the shopping hub. The staffs especially pranav and bier helped them out so much that i can’t even them all. My sisters asked them for help on every little thing and they helped them throughout their stay without getting irritated. That’s why, even after coming back from pokhara, they wanted to stay in the potala guest house so i booked it again for them. And now my sisters want me to tag along with them for their next visit and stay at the same place and meet pranav and bir. Thank you, your kindness and hospitality helped make beautiful memories and i’m looking forward to our next visit and stay at potala guest house.

Perfect location, not too far and not too near to Thamel, walking distance to Durbar Square and Freak street. It is clean comfortable and absolutely welcoming. The food is good, try the Gurka Beer ad Pizza! Fellow Malaysians planning for a trip to the Top of the World or looking for an Adventure, please trust me... stay here.
