We booked a balcony room at the Duval House, based on the photos and descriptions we thought we were booking a charming Bed and Breakfast with a small pool, when our taxi dropped us off, we were perplexed to learn it was a large resort. Turns out the Duval House is one small part of this sprawling resort campus. When we got to our room, we realized they moved us to a different building with no balcony. The room was generously sized and pretty, but there was no balcony. We were looking forward to having drinks and coffee outside our door. We contacted the front desk and were told we were “upgraded” and were apologized to for not being informed of our upgrade. We did run into another couple the next morning who said they were also booked to stay in the Duval House, but upon checking into their room they found it to be small, with a very noisy air conditioner, and the balcony view overlooked a parking lot. So it sounds like we were lucky to get upgraded. Mostly we just found this all strange because the resort didn’t appear to us as advertised, and we prefer staying at smaller accommodations and not large resorts.
