We maakten een stop hier voor thee met scones. De bediening is vriendelijk. We zaten in de tuin onder de appelboom. Heerlijke verse scones, leuke plek om wat te drinken.

We went as a table of 8 a minute of friends and family. Most of us had 3 courses. Although we was the only large table on a Monday evening the service was very poor. The manager accidentally poured a bottle of tonic and a glass of wine over the back of our guest… all over the back of her hair and clothes… It was an accident yet no discount or drinks offered and they still charged service charge. This wasn’t the only thing that was bad. The food was just ok nothing special not very enjoyable even the coffee was cold! We chose this place because of the historical ambience for our guests/friends who had come over from Australia. I would not recommend this place sadly as I really was looking g forward to the meal etc

Stopped of at this place for sunday lunch very small portions very expensive not very good food Lousy service will never go back again definitely wouldn't recommend to others Owner has no respect for his customers dismal cold establishment

The Sign of the Angel relies heavily on the history of its building and its location. As a consequence, little effort has been made to maintain either the property or the period ‘charm’ its website promises. Our room was tired, grubby and uncomfortable. The furnishings bore little resemblance to the photographs on the hotel website, which show foot stools, cushions, an alabaster statuette and potted plants, all of which were absent. Junk shop furniture is meanwhile used in an attempt to create an antique, ‘old England’ experience. The reality was closer to staying in someone’s hastily emptied spare room. The dining experience is much more authentic, offering good quality food and service. Sadly, the cosier of the two dining rooms, situated away from the main entrance was closed for no apparent reason, as was the garden. If you want the experience of staying at a 15th Century inn with oak beams, real fires and sloping floors, the Sign of the Angel won’t disappoint. We however, would have preferred a better standard of room and some more comfort and hospitality.

We had Sunday lunch for 4 people of either 2 or 3 courses. We were asked to arrive at 12.15 which we did (having requested a 12.30 slot which was unavailable). There was a good choice of food. 3 of us choose to have a starter -very good scallops.My husband decided to have a main course followed by a dessert, which seemed a reasonable option. After our starter we waited, and we waited, and we waited. After an hour, I went to ask what had happened to our food - by this time my husband had had nothing to eat at all! We were told by the young waiting staff that this was due to the party of 12 ( see a review below from another group on the same day). No apology from any manager at all. We were told it would soon be served. Meanwhile we were asked if we’d like another drink - we weren’t offered this on the house. Eventually the food did come - mine was very good, and hot. My husband’s Yorkshire pudding was somewhat deflated, but the rest was Ok. At no point were we told that there was an issue, apart from the group of 12 before us. No mention of the fan oven not working, as the other group were told, and we were not offered any reduction in price as they were (and have been offered at other good restaurants where there has been less delay than here). We have eaten here before and this time we were extremely disappointed in the way we were treated. The manager should have informed us of the situation (until I read the other review we didn’t know it was a problem with the equipment) and apologised upfront, or at least briefed the waiting staff to do so. It wasn’t their fault and we felt extremely sorry for them, We will not be returning.
