I’ve been prompted to leave a review for Great Langdale Bunkhouse, which I hadn’t planned to do as we didn’t get the opportunity to visit, but since I have been prompted I am happy to leave some further info about our booking. My family (husband and children 15 & 11) spent 4 nights in the Scottish Highlands, before returning home to the south coast. We decided to break up the trip by staying overnight at the Great Langdale Bunkhouse (simply somewhere to get our heads down for a night) and visiting an attraction in Flookburgh the next morning before completing our journey. Listening to the BBC Radio 2 news on the way we heard travel warnings regarding Cumbria, and specifically Ambleside. I checked access with the host who advised that access was possible as long as we didn’t have a low car. As we unfortunately DO have a low car the host suggested we bring wellies. We checked local radio and Facebook pages and saw many repeated warnings not to come to local area. The attraction we planned to visit was also flooded. I contacted the host to see if we could move our booking to an unaffected property for the night which was not an option. Ultimately, we drove the full 12 hour journey home taking heed of the government warnings. I asked the host whether it would be possible (even as a goodwill gesture) to move our booking to an alternative date as we had paid £110 and it is a lot of money to lose, however the host is declining to answer the message. We wish future travellers better luck!
