We have gone back to the Hotel Turim Alameda several times over the past 12 years during our holidays in Lisbon. Not only has this hotel remained steady in its charm and excellent customer service, it has continued to evolve with the times and the increasing demands of tourism which Lisbon has experienced. Put another way, this hotel has not missed a beat over the years and continues to be a practical choice for tourists in Lisbon. Below I summarize from my perspective the most salient highlights of the Turim Alameda: Lodging/Food Services, Location, and the Hotel Crew. LODGING AND FOOD SERVICES Room quality is very decent, offering a clean and tidy environment. While varying in size depending upon single or double occupancy, all rooms are adequately equipped and efficiently designed. Bathrooms are clean and are frequently updated. WiFi––which was recently revamped and modernized––is of outstanding signal strength and offers unhindered access throughout the 7-storey hotel. The daily breakfast is solid and diversified, eliminating the need for clients to have to leave the hotel in search of breakfast elsewhere. In addition, especially after a fatiguing day of walking around Lisbon, the hotel’s cocktail lounge and restaurant operation offer a variety of beverages (both adult beverages and non-alcoholic) as well as lunch and dinner offerings. LOCATION IN LISBON I will reiterate a critical point I have made in earlier reviews for previous years about the location of this hotel. The locality near the “Instituto Superior Técnico” (a major European university of engineering) is in a very safe and clean section of Lisbon. I refer specifically to the high level of neighborhood security, but also to the availability of various shops, restaurants, neighborhood markets, superstores, bakeries, takeaways, laundromats, subway stations, and “multi-bancos” (i.e., ATM machines)––all located within reasonable walking distance from the hotel. Taking a taxi or simply walking to catch the metro in order to visit central parts of Lisbon is an easy task. Ordering a taxi at the front desk for us has always been an efficient and inexpensive solution, with an average wait time of 5 minutes or less. Personally, the excellence of location alone would cause me to assess the Turim Alameda as top-rated, since there can be other areas of Lisbon which are not nearly as orderly and uncongested. Take note of this fact when deciding in which part of the Lisbon metropolitan area you will stay. FLEXIBLE, ADAPTABLE STAFF All hotel staff members must be commended for being extremely client-friendly, accessible at all times, and willing to assist tourists with tips and advice about discovering Lisbon. As a former CEO myself, I believe that this high quality in staff excellence starts with the masterful Hotel Director, Rui Henriques, who has painstakingly assembled a team of talented and multi-lingual hotel professionals to make your stay most memorable.
