Fantastic hotel with great Indian restaurant

We loved the hotel very charming

Good location, 5 mins from town centre. Ample free parking. Hassle-free check in. Radiator in room not working so had to get a portable oil heater brought to us, which was done promptly. Room cleanliness fine. Lots of staff, friendly, although a bit disorganised at breakfast.

The service from the staff was great 4* The condition of the hotel. 2*. This is absolutely not a 4* hotel. It is so incredibly tired. We had to ask for a new room as the bathroom in the first was peeling and there was damp all over the ceiling. The replacement room was marginally better, but there were cobwebs over the curtains. The room furniture looks original. Horrible dark wood soulless generic hotel equipment. There is no power sockets for phone charging by the bedside tables. There is an espresso machine but no Tbags or biscuits. You need to call down for fresh milk. The pillows were good. But the bathrooms need a complete overhaul. They are so old and tired. Carpets throughout the hotel have funny green stains on them. This hotel cost A LOT. Absolutely not worth the money. I think the premier inn across the river will give you a better room experience.

We’ve stayed here a few times as have friends nearby. The room was good, at the front with a fab view of the river/church/bridge. The bathroom was v tired, and some of the pictures on the wall were broken! The whole hotel needs updating, carpets frayed. The worst was the breakfast - v small buffet. Only fruit was melon, tiny choice. Cooked menu was good but the service was so slow - my partner waited 48 minutes for poached eggs and avocado on toast. So did other people. Also, it was Sunday and it finishes at 10am - what’s that about? At £236 a night, very overpriced.

This feedback was given verbally at check out so would be interesting to see if anything has been done. Room tariff was £267 for b & b The room was very worn and tired, hole in the carpet, shower within the bath was dreadful, cold water from one ring of shower head and hot from the inner ring with little pressure. Bath plug also didn’t drain during shower, so standing in water. The room overlooked the car park, which wasn’t an issue, we can’t all have the river views. But, what was an issue was there was no modesty or sheer curtain so you either had the black out curtains putting the room in darkness (lovely to sleep in) or got changed, spent time in the room with anyone from the car park able to look straight in your room, due to the slope of the car park even though room was the first floor there was a very easy look into the room. Bar - very small bar area with not enough staff who know how to run the till, put items on room etc. No mint = no mojitos Evening meal, mains ok but desserts a big fail. Pavlova = just a pre mass produced meringue ’nest’ with a spoon of cream and berries on top. Almost an ‘Eton mess’ but not a pavlova. Breakfast was terrible, poached egg had undercooked white so inedible. Sausage tiny, bacon undercooked with as much fat/rind as meat Black pudding just crumbs And the toast! Seriously wasn’t even toasted, just slightly shown some heat on one side. A great venue for a wedding but the rest of the hotel neglected.

Great location, comfortable and spacious standard room with a view. Breakfast was very nice (full vegan cooked) but breakfast service from the waiting staff was terrible, almost non existent in fact, we were ignored, forgotten at every step. Plus a very long wait from the kitchen. This despite having scheduled booking times to spread out the Sunday morning rush.
