If you weren't aware, French hotel star ratings aren't the same as international hotel ratings. The Hôtel la Résidence du Vieux Port is a 5 out of 20 star hotel--a decent 3-star on a good day.
The hotel sits at a busy area within M****ille, which is not too noisy, and a stones throw away from the restaurants just across the port. Subway and bus transporation are conveniently located nearby, and so the hotel is in a prime location. The aesthetics of the hotel are that of a child on an acid trip with a crayon. It's cute if you like red, and what feels like carpet throughout. The hotel feels perpetually damp, and the rooms smell musky, but decently well kept. Housekeeping welcomes you with a straw fedora on your bed when you walk-in, and the other perks are a coffee machine, a TV that doesn't work, and a clogged shower. Nothing really to scream about--its a ragged 3-star hotel. If you expect 5-star then you should expect disappointment.
I am rather besmirched by the fact that I booked the hotel through ******* but mistakenly booked the wrong dates. I called the hotel immediately afterwards to make the change, and they weren't willing to refund me, or allow early checkout. They easily could have re-booked with the Rugby World Cup was going on that week, but the front desk wouldn't budge. Both this hotel, and *******, lost my respect and my business. Neither were helpful, and neither worth visiting again.
