Staying at The Old Marshall Jail was an unforgettable experience. The building’s history is alive in every detail, beautifully restored while keeping its original character intact. The décor is authentic and full of charm, with thoughtful touches that make the place feel truly special. The people here are fantastic friendly, welcoming, and clearly proud of what they’ve created. You can feel the passion behind the service and the care in every interaction. And the food? Absolutely delicious. The chicken burger was one of the best I’ve ever had cooked perfectly and full of flavor. If you’re looking for a stay that’s full of history, heart, and great hospitality, The Old Marshall Jail is the place to be. I can’t wait to visit again.

This is your place. From the artwork featuring stories of Marshall's past criminal activity, to the cell doors featured in the hallways, to the outlined hole in the ceiling of the Riverview Suite marking the place where two inmates escaped the facility years ago, this place is unbelievable. The owner did a fantastic job with this small hotel, with so much to see. The downtown district of Marshall is so cool. My wife and I love it. It is quaint, but has just enough of everything to keep you occupied for a fun, relaxing stay.

We have stayed there 4 times over the years and can't recommend it highly enough. It is a unique place which has been lovingly repurposed from a jail to a small hotel by Josh, its owner who is a potter and an artist. His beautiful pottery is everywhere. Rooms are large and beds are comfy but what makes it so special is the friendly staff. There is a restaurant as well and they often feature live local entertainment, including the ballad swap performed by local Appalachian singers who are keeping their traditions alive. Go out of your way to stay here!

Communication needs to improve, especially when nobody was there physically to help the check/check out process. The house itself was well represented as an old historic jail house.

This was our second stay at this hotel and we will be back. The hotel retains some of the features of the old jail in a delightfully funky way that shows a lot of care went into preservation. Our room was huge, comfortable and quiet. Our host, Josh, couldn't have been nicer and his pottery and art are displayed throughout. We stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the ballad singing/dinner one night. There is a lot to do nearby -- white water rafting, hiking, good restaurants with none of the overly crowded and touristy vibe of Asheville.

Review is for the restaurant Zadies at the old jail which doesn’t appear yet on TripAdvisor. Food was elevated southern cooking with spot on fried chicken breast. We also tried the beet salad and the mac and cheese. Everything was really good and quality. Wish we found it earlier as we would have returned.
