I recently stayed at Marram in Montauk with a few family members, expecting a unique, high-quality experience given all the glowing feedback from my family, who have visited multiple times. However, I have to say this stay was nothing short of disappointing and downright frustrating. I had seen some mixed reviews online before arriving, but I didn’t pay much attention to them, thinking my family’s experiences would hold true. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This place fell dramatically short, and the lack of attention from management was glaring. To start, when we arrived, it felt like there was no one around to greet or help us. The check-in process was impersonal, and we weren’t given any information about the amenities or services, let alone a warm welcome. Then we headed to our rooms, where things went from bad to worse. In one of our rooms, the AC didn’t work, leaving us to deal with a stuffy, uncomfortable space in the middle of a surprisingly warm weekend. Adding to the misery, the bathroom lights didn’t work. We reported these issues to the front desk, hoping for a quick fix. While they did send someone up to address the problem, it was while we were out for dinner, and when we returned, the light worked for only five minutes before going out again. It was honestly laughable. The lack of basic conveniences was baffling. There was no extra water, no vending machines, and no place to get a drink after the front desk closed. The two small boxed waters they provided were warm. This is basic hospitality—any budget hotel would have more than what they offer. Why on earth doesn’t this hotel have a water dispenser or even a vending machine? And they don’t stop there; they had no snacks or light bites during the day at their restaurant. I get it's out of season but with a full hotel pay a chef $1,500 for Friday-Sunday and have them cook something. The so-called “complimentary breakfast” was even worse: some pre-packaged snacks, a couple of sad-looking apples (some were rotten), and practically nothing else. For the price we paid—over $530 with a $75 resort fee—this lack of basic service was insulting. Our room was also severely lacking in essential amenities. The bathroom had little to no toiletries, leaving us scrambling for basics we’d expect to find in any hotel, let alone one charging luxury prices. The “resort fee” apparently goes nowhere because this place barely even provides what’s needed for a comfortable stay. It seems Marram prefers to put up a front of luxury without actually backing it up with quality. For $*** a night, I expected a decent level of service, not an experience that feels more in line with a budget motel. To top it all off, the property itself was overrun with bees. Every time we tried to sit outside or enjoy any common areas, we had to deal with a swarm of bees, making it impossible to relax.
