RUN don’t walk from this hotel scam. On January 11, 2023 at 9:10pm, I made a booking through ******* for hotel accommodations for August 4, 2023 to August 7, 2023 at the Boutique Hotel Saint François Xavier. When booking the “buy now, pay later” option was selected. In my booking details and travel itinerary it clearly states that I would not be charged until check in on August 4, 2023. The booking was for 3 nights and after taxes, was for $1,627.92. On January 12,2023 I received a text from my credit card company indicating my balance has dropped below $100 on my card. I reviewed my account and noticed the hotel had collected the entire payment in full, 9 months early than authorized. After reaching out to *******, I was told this is a temporary hold. Then the transaction was posted to my account and I called the hotel. They indicated they charged me in full and that ******* indicated to take the payment. Once my statement was issued for the billing period, it was sent to ******* to investigate. It was confirmed the hotel was not to charge me, and the charge was outside my contract and booking details. The hotel has refused a full refund and ******* will not provide a refund either. When making my reservation, the hotel was expectedly chosen for the “pay later” option as funds were not readily available for the trip, and I had 9 months to continue saving. The fees incurred on my credit card, interest accrued, and financial hardship this has posed due to not being able to use my credit card (and resulting in declined regular bill payments) due to being overdrawn on my card for the unauthorized charge has made my life extremely challenging. I have been without a credit card for over a month as I cannot afford to pay off this unauthorized charge. I should not have to suffer physically or financially because of deceptive advertising practices. This is in breach of my rights through the Canadian Competition act. Cancel my booking and refund me they money you had no legal right to take from me.
