I love the Icebear! I had occasion to stay here three different times throughout my trip to Sri Lanka, and recommend it without reservation. If you can swing it, book one of the more expensive rooms, as they have better showers. I love how you can hear the Indian Ocean waves crashing, and all the birds and chickens. It's kind of af a wonderland. Manager Christi was always there to make sure I had anything I wanted, and the entire staff was engaging and responsive - special shout out to the server Rashen! The only downside for me is that they take cash only, and ATMs in Negombo can be unreliable, but there's one in Colombo airport just before you get to where your driver will be waiting for you.

Negombo is a bit of a tourist trap because so close to the airport. So seems that rooms (and some other things) are quite expensive. Icebear Guesthouse has a nice quirky vibe, and a beautiful garden overlooking the ocean. But the room itself was rather shabby, the aircon leaked, the advertised minibar was not there (though they did bring it on request), and on our last day one of the old, heavy windows fell off its hinges as we were opening it. (It needed to be opened to be able to see the view over the garden and the 'sea view' that we were paying for). The restaurant also, while a lovely place to site, had a limited menu and was overpriced for pretty average food. Good points: the garden, helpful staff. Bad points: overpriced, shabby.
Somewhat funky guest house. Staff was terrific and the location right on the beach was fantastic. Not fancy but completely charming and the price can’t be beat.
