The room (with 2 beds) was excellent, roomy and with a beautiful view to the river and mountains. This hotel has history, it is a dignified hotel with plenty of helpful service staff and beautiful place to eat breakfast. Breakfast is served by menu, not a buffet but satisfying. I highly recommend this hotel due to its spacious room, service a beautiful decor.
I stayed here with my partner and two friends (in two rooms) for two nights while exploring the Nikko area. The rooms were a bit smaller than some other ryokans I have been to but perfectly comfortable and clean. There were also two outdoor baths and two indoor baths (male and female) which would switch at particular times to allow guests to enjoy all the baths available during their stay. The outdoor baths in particular allowed you to enjoy views of the river and hills while bathing during daylight hours.
NNieva MayThe place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of ”omotenashi”. Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again.
