Really sorry to say, that the meal was very disappointing. We had pre ordered as we were a group. The food was bland, and most of it tasted as if it had been reheated, and not cooked freshly. The lady behind the bar/ waitress was rude. Very over priced, for the food & drinks.

I took my family to the crown for Sunday lunch we could not get a table else where. Service was OK, I had the three meat roast ,which was a chicken drumstick? A slice of beef & a slice of pork ( possibly belly) seemed odd & lacked any green vegetables, all though a big plate for £24.95 way over priced for average at best food !! For that price you should be the best for miles !! Really not shame .

Visited twice in a week. Excellent menu, massive choice, big portions and quality ingredients. Very friendly staff too. Highly recommended. They have specials each night of the week like Tuesday night is curry night. Brilliant value food.

Just stayed at the Crown Inn with our motorhome. What a perfect pub. The staff were excellent and Monty made us feel really welcome. We ate in the dining area and the food was perfect (rib eye steak, steak & ale pie). The bar are was full of local people from the village and very welcoming to strangers. There is a good story with the place as well with Tess of the d’Urbervilles. If anyone says the village pub cannot survive they need to think again. You just have to know how to do it properly!

We had a roast dinner here 3 weeks ago which was very good, so we were looking forward to another one today. Very disappointed. I ordered the pork, which I couldnt eat as it had more fat on than meat and the meat did not taste very nice at all. When asked was everything okay we did say that the pork was not nice. Nobody came over to apologize. We paid the full bill, but we won’t go back.

Three of us visited today for lunch. Each of us had something different and really enjoyed our meals. The menu is very varied with something for everyone’s taste and appetite. The venue is lovely and comfortable with lots of historic interest. The service was friendly and attentive without being overwhelming. We will definitely be returning in the near future to further sample the menu of delights . Highly recommended.

Stayed here as part of a walking holiday. Beautiful decor in keeping with the age of the inn and you really feel the history of the building. Lovely pub and restaurant, we ate breakfast and dinner there and both were outstanding. The staff were all lovely and the place is spotlessly clean.

We stayed at the Crown this weekend (husband and young baby with me) and we had the most fantastic time. We phoned ahead to arrange a room with enough space for a travel cot and found the staff to be really helpful. The room itself was decorated really nicely and to a higher standard to what I expected from a room at a pub. We had everything we needed for our overnight stay and a lovely breakfast the next day. We will very much be staying again when we are travelling again to visit family.

Super friendly staff. Great atmosphere on. a Friday evening. My fish and chips were the best I’ve ever had - a big portion and the tartare sauce was excellent. Service was timely and efficient and the staff all seemed keen to ensure that everything was ok and that I was happy which was nice as a solo diner. I’d definitely go back next time I’m in the area for work. Noise from the road is initially quite noisy but it certainly quietens down overnight.

Yesterday I stayed at The Crown Inn, Marnhull, Dorset. The room I stayed in was very odd: the bed had a large step all around the base, concealed by a cloth frill. When I first got out of the bed my foot slipped on the cloth frill which was concealing the step and I nearly fell on the floor. Additionally I hit my ankle against the wooden step every time I was near the bed. I told the proprietor this when I paid my bill as I checked out. He took violent exception to what he apparently perceived to be unjust criticism of his establishment and shouted at me several times using the most foul language before assaulting me by trying to push me out of the door. I pointed out that I was only making a comment on the room I had just paid him to stay in. No other customers were present or no doubt he would not have behaved like this, but a cleaning lady saw and heard all this. She seemed too scared to help me. As the proprietor is a large bloke and I am aged around 80, am disabled and frail, it was difficult for me to resist the proprietor’s attack. Probably I should have called the police, but I decided that posting a notice to warn other prospective customers was the most effective action to take.

來自住宿之回應: Firstly we want to take the opportunity to wholly refute this malicious review as fictitious, exaggerated, deceitful and slanderous. We were anticipating a review from this guest following many complaints at pretty much everything during a 24 hour visit with us but what is being portrayed has taken us completely aback. We have CCTV footage with clear audio of all of the encounters between this guest and our various team members throughout all of their engagements. Nothing from our end was untoward. The guest was persistently rude, abusive, deliberately antagonistic and after 24 hours of this, the guest refused to leave the building when asked to do so. At this point the guests stay had ended. To back up the proprietor our ‘scared cleaner’ actually said to the guest that they should leave as requested, she had also witnessed the guests disturbances and at no point was ‘help’ required on the part of the ‘frail’ guest who was shouting and screaming. None of our team members are in any way scared of any other members of the team. We are a friendly bunch and the majority of our team have been with us for many years. The sister of the guest had previously popped in to ‘vet’ that the room was suitable for her brother and booked it on his behalf. Therefore we are sorry that the guest himself did not find the room suitable, but this is outside of our control. On the morning in question, the guest’s sister had phoned us to thank us for their dinner the previous evening, his stay and for looking after them (which we assumed to be a roundabout apology on behalf of the guests behaviour). It is not the norm to receive a phone call such as this. If indeed someone had been “assaulted” on our premises, we would have been the first to encourage them to or call the police ourselves. We have a zero-tolerance policy to any abuse towards our team and therefore we find it abhorrent that this libellous review has been aimed towards us. To sum up, this guest is not welcome back and I can only assume that this is an attempt to damage our reputation as one final hurrah. Even after he has left the building, he is still causing problems.

We booked for a one night stay. We had a lovely time talking to the management team and locals. We were made to feel extremely welcome. The room was very comfortable with a large bathroom and powerful shower. Our breakfast was first class. Highly recommended. We hope to be back in the very near future.

Absolutely stunning place to stay breakfast outstanding and hosts are amazing highly highly recommended this place. Lovely for romantic break rooms are beautiful big fluffy towel very comfortable bed. We came for big family party in Sturminster and would 100% stay again.

We have visited and stayed at the pub several times and always loved it. Unfortunately we weren’t able to stay at the pub this time as it was way too expensive (for the price of the room we managed to stay elsewhere and have a drink, starter and main each), but decided to still go for dinner, what a disappointment. I don’t know what’s happened with the quality of the food?! You definitely don’t get what you pay for. For £8, I had a slab of pâté but small triangles of brioche. I’ve never had pâté with brioche? My husband had a buttermilk chicken for a starter, smallest portion again for £8. The worst was the main, chicken caesar salad which wasn’t even one.. no sign of a lettuce leaf but included all the salad that is normally scraped to the side of a plate, bacon burnt to a crisp, the smallest egg, hardly any dressing and the smallest shaving of parmesan. My husband did have the tomahawk which he said was nice but quite expensive for what you get. We didn’t even bother with dessert. It was such a shame to see how much the food quality has changed and what was a tradition will probably now change as just can’t justify the amount we paid for the quality we got.

Valentines night - we were celebrating the fact we had our first date at this pub. So disappointed! We didn’t want the whole valentines menu so I asked for a rib eye steak from the valentines menu which was refused even though it was very quiet in the pub. We then ordered 2 sirloins - one was sent back as it was ordered medium rare but it arrived well done. Both our steaks were inedible as they were so tough and we left them. We explained to the waiter who took them off the bill. It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely pub but the service we received was disinterest. Whilst we were grateful that the steak was taken off the final bill, it was valentines night….we felt that the waiter didn’t really care. We won’t be going back sadly - especially as it’s where we first met.
