Without sounding too pompous I am a well seasoned travelled grandfather of 65 years old. I have just recently experienced an exemplary stay at St Anton Haus for 2 weeks with 3 generations of my family.Everything was catered for in the most effective/efficient manner. But despite the name (St Anton) this is the most Japanese family friendly hotel I have ever stayed at, everything is made to make you feel part of the hotel’s family. Location is excellent. Others have already mentioned the excellent food which IMO is Michelin class. Don’t want to rave about it too much as I need availability for next year 🙂

We loved st anton. Ken, his mum, Misa… we felt like we were part of the family. The rooms were cosy and we had such a great time with our 4 rowdy children. They went above and beyond to help us with every little thing and we are so grateful. It was our first time to Nozawa Onsen and we were blown away by how beautiful and quaint this town is.

My husband and I stayed with Haus St. Anton in Jan 2023. We are really pleased with the service throughout our stay there. From the time we check-in we were warmly welcome by ichico-san till we check-out. The room is clean and big enough for the 2 of us. They have 1 in-house onsen and 1 hot bath which you need to book for use everyday. Shampoo, hair conditioner and shower gel are provided at the onsen and hot bath and they smell so good. Both areas are very clean and always feels good after a good onsen after 1 full day of Snowboarding. The service staffs from the restaurant were really friendly, approachable and helpful with our enquiry. The breakfast served are one of the best we had. The bread are all freshly bake, their signature jams make me want to come back for more. And We also had dinner omakase at the restaurant on 1 night with our friends. The food is not only visually looking good, it taste yummy too. Misa-san who communicated with me via email is very friendly and also a very accountable person. With abit of hiccup when we checkout, she promptly keep me in the loop of what is happening and did her best to solve the issue. Thumbs-up to that. We had a wonderful stay at Haus St. Anton and will definitely go back and also recommend it to anyone who wants to head to Nozawa Onsen.

We stayed in February 2023 for a week's skiing. The people at St Anton – which is family run – worked hard to give us the best stay; from the staff in the hotel and restaurant; to those in the public cafe downstairs; and not to forget the friendly and helpful staff in the hotel’s equipment hire store located at the ski base area. The hotel rooms are quite small, but that was OK with our being focus on skiing and enjoying ourselves up and down the mountain. Despite their size the rooms were very comfortable though! St Anton’s hospitality shone through when we arrived by bus at about 2 AM after flying into Tokyo earlier in the evening. The hotel is too small to have a staff member attending the front desk at all hours, and so we were welcomed with a detailed note about how to enter and where to find our room. Nothing could have been simpler! Breakfast was a foodie heaven, with a set Japanese menu changing each day – smoothie, salad and soup, followed by an egg dish (omelette or quiche) and home made breads served with the hotel's special and tasty Nagano honey and jams made from locally grown produce. Location, location is the absolute asset of St Anton – we were within metres of several Nozawa’s famous public onsens (and the hotel has its own), many restaurants and shops and just a short walk to the moving walkway to access the ski base area. You couldn't do better for a fabulous central location. Despite its centrality there was absolutely no street noise. While our incoming bus dropped us directly at St Anton because of the late hour, the central bus depot is within 200 metres and easily walked if arriving or departing during the day.
