Hotel-Gasthof Rose

Nie wieder! Man fühlt sich von der 1. Minute an unwillkommen. Personal ist eigentlich nie da, Besitzerin unfreundlich. Informationen bekommt man gar nicht, auch keine Gästekarte trotz bezahlter Kurtaxe! Die Zimmer sind in die Jahre gekommen, Abendessen, wie auf der Website gelesen ist auch nicht erhältlich.

We stayed at this guest house as part of our passion play ticket, we decided to pay a bit more and get a better standard of accomadation. Our one night dinner, breakfast, stay cost over £300. We had free on-site parking and wifi in the room. The bedding was tired and in places thread bare, although mostly clean, dust had settled on ledges. Breakfast was simple german fayre and ok Dinner was truly awful, tasteless, cheap, low quality, poor choice, we were so dissapointed Boring salad starter, over cooked mushy beef or pork served with over cooked pasta twists, tasteless watery red cabbage, dessert was cheap icy icecream. Fortunately the portions were small and you didn't have to endure the insult on ones tastebuds too long. Sadly our stay here, tarnished our passion play experience.

camere non rinnovare da decenni. struttura decadente. polvere Ovunque. terrazza in legno marcio non curato. ingresso cupo e pieno di oggetti messi alla rinfusa in modo schizofrenico. colazione inesistente consistente in pane scongelato e salumi estratti dalla confezione in plastica. tutto terribile. non hanno colazione dolce che per gli italiani è la base. sono stato aggredito dalla proprietaria per essermi preparato del pane da mangiare in tarda mattinata. una vergogna indicibile. nella stesso periodo di permanenza altri malcapitati sono Stati aggrediti verbalmente quasi ogni giorno. vi Consiglio per il vostro bene di evitare questo tugurio decadente prossimo ad implodere su se stesso

This is not a three star hotel. It is much more a family run boarding house with clean comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The manageress is certainly “forthright” but we found her friendly and helpful - she took time to show us the roles she and generations of her family had played in the Passion Play. The food is not fine dining but perfectly adequate home cooked fare - with reasonably priced wine. The three sisters of the family who are all participating in the Passion Play were great fun and took time to explain their involvement etc. No complaints.

We know nothing about this hotel when we booked our Passion Play package, other than we did not want to be in a large tourist hotel. We were so glad that we chose this one for our 2 night stay in Oberammergau, and it did exceed expectations. Our room was large, and everything was there that we could want. It also had the advantage of being in a quiet area, so that we could sleep untroubled by external noise. The breakfast was very good, with plenty of choices of food, and the included evening meal was also good, and thankfully unlike much of the food choices in Bavaria. To our amazement the whole family had parts on the Passion Play, and one of the daughters was the alto soloist in the choir for the performance that we saw. We can recommend this 100%

We were staying at the hotel for a 3 day/2 night Passion play package. Due to an accident on our train track, our train stopped, we all had to disembark, board busses, and driven to a train stop beyond the accident. We ended up being so delayed, we missed our first night dinner. There were 3 of us staying at Gasthof Zur Rose, and one family member - who decided to travel with us later, was at another hotel. All four of us decided to go first to Gasthof Zur Rose to check in 3 of us and drop our luggage. Upon arrival, Renate volunteered to make a dinner for all four of us, and then drove the extra person to his hotel. His documents had not been emailed to us until after our departure for Germany. She took a picture of the hotel arrangements and had me email his documents to her. The next morning she printed them out, and drove the documents over to his hotel. She did not ask for any compensation for any of her efforts! ( I did tip her at the end of our stay). The hotel is in an excellent location for the play and everything else in town. The accommodations are clean and everything worked well. The place was charming and very comfortable. Our window views were nice. We saw her a lot and she was always very helpful and cheerful. Additionally, we got to see her perform in the afternoon portion of the play. Ludwig performed in the evening. Our meals were very delicious and we were offered good choices. It was a excellent experience. Thank you Renate and Ludwig!

We were made to feel very welcome during our stay. The staff were friendly, helpful and informative. The whole family had performed at the passion play over many years. Their daughter had a beautiful crystal voice when singing. Rooms were clean, comfortable and roomy. Excellent buffet breakfast was served with a wide choice of food and drinks. Had car parking on the premises. Excellent stay, highly recommended.

There is no denying the prettiness of this humble hotel, nestled just off the main square in Oberammagau. It's a typical Alpine establishment in looks and, as it turns out, in feel and service too. I nside, a rather dated but homely interior beckons, but all the public spaces we saw were clean and serviceable. The bedroom was likewise spotless and airy enough for a 2 night stay. One point of oddness was the shower - it was impossible to use it without flooding the bathroom floor. Perhaps that's a Bavarian tradition. I'm sure that the clientele in Passion Play summers is almost exclusively using this Gasthof as part of a package, as were we. Sadly, I'm also sure that explains why everything went downhill in the restaurant. This isn't a place eager for 'repeat business' bearing in mind that the play is only once a decade and it would be a very loyal client indeed who was booking this place now for 2030. Dinner on Night One was "chicken or fish", headed up by either a small bowl of plain salad - literally leaves in a dish - or a bowl of what appeared to be gruel, accompanied by jelly-like strands of 'pancake'. The chicken and fish were serviceable in a kind of school dinners way. Dessert took the form of a slab of 'cake', the composition of which was never revealed. Breakfast was altogether better, with a decent selection of the usual elements you'd expect in a bed and breakfast. Dinner on Night Two was an altogether more arresting experience. The starter this time was a 'broth' - unclear again what lay within it. The 'mains' were either a single slab of roast beef adorned with gravy and accompanied by a bowl of plain fusilli spirals, or another slab of pork. The vegetarian option was a singular roll of flaky pastry with couscous and what appeared to be tinned tomato soup dribbling out if it. Dessert was a piece of ice cream that closely resembled a 'Funny Feet' 1970's lolly. Drinks were an additional cost but were reasonable; the service from staff was friendly and efficient. Their pride in serving up such woeful food was touching in its own way. It's one of those places which, although pretty and scenic and clean, totally lets itself down with the other elements, as is often the way in once-in-a-lifetime contexts. It was Dickensian experience to go with the drama of the Passion Play. Except nobody at the dinner table in Gasthof Zur Rose was asking sir for any more.
