Beautiful place for a romantic weekend. Couldn't ask for a more lovely stay. The private spa pool overlooking the ocean allows for you to relax and unwind. The room is enchanting and the "home cooked" nibbles are just a fabulous touch. Lots to do in the area but equally easy to stay and enjoy the lodge if the weather turns.

Thank you for having us — we had a wonderful time. The views were beautiful, and our host was lovely. We truly enjoyed our visit and wished we could have stayed longer. That said, the place would benefit from a thorough spring clean, which would have made our stay even more enjoyable.

We spent 4 beautiful days at wonderful Tarleton Lodge and loved every minute. Set high above the scenic Bay of Islands it has the best views. Our elegant room with its super comfortable bed and a big bowl of all sorts of fresh fruits greeted us. Then we found the kitchen area stocked with more wonderful fruits, home baked chocolate chip cookies, champagne, snacks and more, resupplied daily. An amazing gift! Best of all were our fantastic hosts. Peter and Catalina made us feel so at home and we couldn't get enough of their friendly encounters and Peter's incredible sailing stories. They have led an adventurous and enviable life, and it's fascinating to share it. You can walk to town all downhill so the return is more work, but we did it once or twice every day and loved the exercise and views. The spa is the best ever. Don't miss this treasure!

We hade a fantastic 2 night stay at Tarlton's Lodge and it was definitely the best venue of our 5 week holiday. You certainly get what you pay for. Peter and Katalina gave us a very warm welcome with nothing that was too much trouble to make sure we had a wonderful time. The views are amazing, the location is perfect and with lots to do, places to go, restaurants etc all nearby and helpfully collated by Peter. Home made snacks, complementary wine, fruit etc all goes a long way to making you feel at home. Everything was spotless and they pride themselves on trying to be the best. Air conditioning worked well, and as a new-comer to Hot Tubs, we really enjoyed it at the end of a busy day on our private and secluded terrace.

Just an amazing stay! The room and view are outstanding enough, but you also get hosts that pamper you with little touches and good advice. You can walk to town if you dn't mind a hill on the way back, but otherwise everything is easy to get to. We cannot recommend it high enough!!

Hot tub has the best view. We stayed here a couple nights while we explored the beautiful Bay of Islands. Peter and Katalina are gracious hosts and the suite had everything we needed from Champagne, coffee, fresh made cookies. Walk into town was easy.

My Wife and I stayed at Tarlton's during our honeymoon in the bay of islands and Peter and Katalina made it a magical experience. Not only was our room clean and beautiful but all the little details were taken care of. Heated towel racks? Check. Home made cookies in a jar? Check. Some little bottles of Champagne? Check. Fresh fruit? Check. All of this on top of one of the most beautiful views in the world. Watching the sun rise in a hot tub while the blue expanse of the bay of islands spreads out below you is stunning. Each of the rooms is accessed by a private stairway and even though the rooms are open to the world the angles and the architecture makes it feel like a secluded little mountain hideaway, with an excellent shower and a 15 minute walk (though it is quite vertical) to the town and all its amenities. Finally I cannot say enough positive things about our hosts. They ran the place with a graceful combination of professional attention to detail and familial warmth. They made us feel at home and even worried about us when we came home late one night. They forgave us for ruining a beach towel and made sure we left with pockets full of snacks and freshly picked flowers from Katalina's garden. Our best experience in New Zealand.

What an awesome experience! What an awesome view! What an amazing couple Peter and Katalina were! I felt like we were family! Each day we refreshed in the Hot Tub as we went over our day. All the small touches were wonderful, the snacks, fresh fruit and chocolates! Truly a wonderful place!

Had a wonderful 2 nights at Tarlton's, friendly owners who showed us the place and then gave us our privacy. Amazing views and spa pool was just the ticket! The place was clean and was serviced for us, even replaced the extra's we found on arrival which really added to the service and experience. Definitely will be returning and recommend.

Firstly sorry Peter and Katalina that its took so long to leave you a review i lost your card and couldn't remember what your lovely place was called but i have now found it and both mandy and myself really enjoyed our stay although it was only two nights back in Feb 2024 we haven't forgotten your warmth and hospitality and leaving you both was a real wrench. we both loved your accommodation and the hot tub was nice for watching the sun go down, we hope to get back and see you again one day in the future. we highly recommend Tarltons lodge a real gem in a beautiful area.

Wonderful, very friendly and helpful hosts. Place has stunning views (see photo)! Place is somewhat pricy, however, it makes up for it with excellent amenities. Mini fridge with drinks (wine, coke, water) and cookies as well as fresh fruits, coffee pods, all free of charge. The safe was a bonus as well. I am not the biggest Jacuzzi fan, but this one looked brand new and so sparkling clean that we could not resist. Only three minutes to town with the car or 1 5 min walk. We stayed for 2 days and took a day trip via boat (with explore) from Paihia to the hole in the rock and the Urupukapuka island (strongly recommend this trip and to take a prolonged 5 hours stay on that island for a 4 mile hike, as there are stunning, stunning views from high cliffs overlooking the surrounding islands, breathtaking!

Just completed a lovely trip to Tarlton’s Lodge. The location is stunning, the hot tub on the patio is private and pristine and the room is very quiet and comfortable. What makes the place special, however, are the many thoughtful personal touches you get from the hosts. From good pre-trip communications, to daily snacks and beverages and cleaning services, recommendations on restaurants and tours and the warmth with which it is all delivered. We felt more like old friends than first-time customers. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. It was our favorite accommodation while touring New Zealand.

If there is anything that can surpass the location and views of Tarlton Lodge, it is the hospitality provided by our hosts Peter and Katalina. This is a truly special start to our trip to New Zealand. The greeting to enter the Waitangi Meeting House at the Treaty Grounds makes this the perfect way to start a visit to New Zealand.
