We checked in just in time for dinner. I wish we didn’t. A three course meal for two was £60 and did not deliver value for money. The soup was bland and that’s about the nicest thing I can say about the experience. It’s not like I had Michelin star expectations, but this place couldn’t even get fish and chips right. How can you make dessert look that disgusting? Breakfast was equally bad. The mattress was uncomfortable and the walls were paper thin. I could hear conversations in other rooms (meaning everyone else had to suffer my snoring). I’m embarrassed to admit how much we paid for two nights there. I mean, I didn’t expect much but this place failed to meet my low expectations.

The food is awful. We didn’t even stay for the breakfast on the second day. We paid £60 for dinner which was appalling, akin to school dinners in the 80’s. The dining room is like a greasy spoon. Bed was really small and uncomfortable. Dreadful entertainment which could be heard through the entire hotel. Paper thin walls, we could hear every conversation in our room. The shower randomly became scalding hot while you were in it. Tv the size of a postage stamp. Outside they had septic tanks which stank by the outdoor seating area. No Wi-Fi in room and no service on mobile.

This hotel is looking very tired compared to when we last went about 5 years ago. The food was still fairly good but I feel that the staff were at times not interested and at times bordering on rude. I certainly won’t be going back which is a shame as we have spent many happy memories here

Good VFM on Travelzoo voucher. Fabulous location for walking. Some very good waiting staff. However, the main course of the evening meal was the worst meal either of us can ever remember having eaten. It was inedible in parts. Leathery tough Yorkshire pudding, rock hard ‘roast’ potatoes, literally could not be cut, tasteless beef all swamped with gravy resembling wallpaper paste. It was awful. In fairness starters and pud were fine. Breakfast also fine. Room fine but we could hear absolutely every movement and talking from the room above. Got very little sleep.

Made many friends over the years with both staff and visitors, but sadly it’s slipping rapidly down, only one or two good staff members left and what can only be described as ghost management and maintenance, very poor- see photos and decide for yourself.

Two nights on a Ramblers Christmas break in a lovely hotel. Excellent accommodation, first class dining and service from attentive staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. So impressed by everything and a return is a must. Thank you to all concerned.

Just spent 2 great nights, the most friendliest and hard working staff made it such a lovely occasion. Experienced amazing food with very good choices available. A very large group of us served with amazing efficiency. Clean and warm. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. A credit to the hotel!

Wonderful location. Very friendly and helpful staff. The food as usual was excellent. Third time visiting this year. Couldn't fault. Walks of all lengths direct from the door. We had a front facing room which I would recommend paying the upgrade for.

Another lovely stay at the Patterdale hotel The staff are some of the best you will come across nothing is too much trouble they make you fee very welcome and they are really hardworking, the menu is as good on every visit.This our fourth time here and we’ll be returning before too long. Thankyou to all the staff for making our visit so good.

This hotel never disappoints. The staff are very helpful, attentive and friendly. Food is good and service is excellent. Rooms are warm and cosy, and always clean. The location is perfect for walking and enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding the hotel. Bus stops outside to travel further afield which is another plus. Walking distance to Glenridding and the boat trips to Pooley Bridge which is a lovely day out. The hotel gives amazing value for money and we can’t wait to return. Just a mention for the staff who excelled in customer service ….. Hazel and Ian. Went out of their way to make our stay special. See you next time!

We’ve stayed here a couple of times before and whilst not the Hilton it is passable. Our room on this occasion was on the small side and like much of the hotel in need of redecoration. It was clean and warm which was welcome as the weather was dire. Our bathroom however was covered in mould which is not only a turn-off but very unhealthy. This is because there is no extractor fan!!! We intended to report it the next day but on returning after a good walk the mould had been cleaned off. Sadly it had begun to return by the time we checked out a couple of days later. Breakfast is ample with a choice of English or Continental and plenty of tea/coffee. Evening dinner is decent pub grub with a reasonable selection for each course. The staff throughout are friendly and very helpful. Wifi is available but hit and miss. This must be down to location …………. but it’s 2024!! Location is excellent with good fell walking a few yards away, Ullswater a 10 minute walk and public transport at the door. Don’t expect a 5* stay and you won’t be disappointed.

This is an hotel situated at the south end of beautiful Ullswater with stunning views all around. The food is excellent and we have been on many cruises and I can honestly say that the food served at the Patterdale can rival that of the ships. The service is good and the portions large. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the bar is well stocked and the barmen Andy and Kev are helpful and efficient. The rooms are comfortable and clean although in some parts could do with updating. They are well stocked with tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel is a haven from the busy world of today, thanks to all the staff for a wonderful weekend. Oh and the Saturday night entertainment was great.

We booked Sunday to Friday, we arrived Sunday afternoon, and were greeted with a friendly face as always on reception and offered mince pies and a brew in the bar area, great start. We were given a lovely room, it's always nice a warm, which is great to come back to after a long walk. The beds are so comfortable, it's hard to leave them in a morning and at home I am an early riser. The breakfast is buffet style, and the drinks are brought to your table, along with specials on the menu, the poached eggs are perfect every time. There are lots of options to chose from for the evening meal, it's hard to decide most nights, the food is piping hot and served by fantastic staff who have a moment to ask how your day has gone and recommend walks for the next day, the staff at this hotel are excellent, everytime we arrive here it's like coming home, we are new to this hotel we have only been 4 times, most people have been coming for years. Thank you to all that keep the Patterdale going with your laughter and conversation, we love it x

We’ve been going to the Patterdale for over 20 years. And never had a problem with any of our stays. The scenery and walks are amazing. It’s a great value hotel, it may need a lick of paint, but the beds are comfortable, it’s warm and cosy, clean and a great hotel for making friends. The food is good and the menu choice is varied and there’s a satisfying English buffet breakfast to start the day. All the staff are professional and happy to help. A special mention to Hazel the waitress, who always had a smile on her face and went above and beyond.
