We stayed for 4 nights and were playing golf there. Rooms are spacious with nice views. Comfortable beds and pillows. Rooms are clean. Security access is as described stupid. You could just give the access codes. Breakfast is good and you will get a proper meal+ drink for included price that is 180zar pp. Golf is very expensive. Worth it ofcourse but very expensive. These were the most expensive rounds we played in SA. Still would recommend as a must play course. In conclusion it was a very good stay and would definately visit again if we ever come back.

Amazing surroundings and on the world-class golf course. There is a spa called Camelot that is fantastic with wonderful staff! The main dining area is very good with wonderful views. The area is very spread out and you may have to do some walking to get to places.

We kozen dit hotel op aanrader van een vriend en omdat mijn man hier eerder heeft gegolfd. De baan is voor golf liefhebbers een aanrader, hoewel wij de prijzen erg hoog vinden. We hebben afgelopen 2 weken op vergelijkbare banen gelopen voor een veel aantrekkelijker tarief. Het hotel biedt veel comfort. Dus daar is niet veel op aan te merken. Kamers zijn ruim van opzet met voldoende (keuken) faciliteiten, wel erg gehorig. Ik miste echter de warmte (ziel) in het hotel, beetje onpersoonlijk. Het voelt eerder als een appartementencomplex met een conciërge. Voor wie anonimiteit zoekt is dit helemaal prima. En met de beveiliging aan de toegangspoort (wel een tijdrovende klus) voel het heel veilig. Tenslotte verdient de verlichting langs het pad naar de kamers/ kleine zwembad aandacht. Meerdere gasten liepen met zaklamp (telefoon) om hun weg te vinden.

I must apologise with regards to the poor lighting on the walkway. During your stay we had an issue with a cable that malfunctioned, and we struggled to find a solution to the problem. I have stayed here before, reviewed the hotel, and this is a followup on other experiences. Not all is great. Complain portion at the bottom. Gym: Top facilities for a hotel gym. Everything you need in a gym. Backs Restaurant: Great little restaurant if you have a short stay (less than 5-days). Would be great for a “larger” menu offering at breakfast. Only a couple of options. But food overall good. Unfortunately the main restaurant is closed for renovations and that puts pressure on “Backs” yet again for dinner options. Still good food but limited menu. Entrance to the estate: Ridiculous! It is a time consuming exercise. Stop, where you going? cell phone number, scan driving licence and disc. Such a terrible process. For a world class resort, your systems must surely be able to cater for one code (entrance and exit) during your stay. You know when we depart so why not give one code for entrance and exit during this time? Don’t say it is for security and my (and residents) safety. Security should always be a priority but this is just a bad and inconvenient process. I stayed for 3-weeks and to follow this every time, twice a day, is just ridiculous. There is better ways! Unfortunately the complaints about the access procedure has been coming for years (as I read the reviews) and still it has not changed. Golf: Would still like to play (and review) but not at the requested rate. I have played at many other courses (of same quality) and they are just as good and exclusive but not this expensive. But Still a great stay Will go back

Because of your username I am not always able to track exactly who the reviewer is, but I would like to thank you for your return business and for your soonest return Pearl Valley Hotel by Mantis is a supplier, one of many, on the greater Val de Vie and Pearl Valley Residential Estate. Security is independently chosen and managed by the Home Owners Association and suppliers like the hotel, do not have that much say on SOP and management processes of the security. In the past 2 years, since my commencement of employment, I can honestly say that access for hotel guests have been improved, but, you are 100% correct that there must be easier and more streamlined methods that can be implemented. As a hotel guest, we do assist with biometrics access for the main gate, but not inter estate travel. I am confused and I apologise that I was not aware of your access issues as I would have signed off paperwork for authorization. Please do take up my offer on your return. Golf is a complete separate entity and we do not have any say on their rates. We do however offer better rates to guests that chose to stay with the hotel and play a round of golf. I will communicate and share your feedback on Back's Restaurant to the owners in order for them to relook at a larger menu for longer staying guests. Apologies for the closing of the one restaurant. Annual hollow tining occurs after season, normally the last 2 weeks in April after Easter weekend. All the great service and treatment we enjoyed from the Pearl Valley hotel and its wonderful staff was marred by the shocking manner in which the security staff operates the access and egress gates to the Estate. Our room was far from perfect, with a wet carpet and rising damp - but this was not an issue as the hotel staff were quick to attend to the issue with good grace. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights for a beautiful celebratory weekend with close friends. Our stay was ruined by at least 7 unpleasant encounters we had with Thornburn Security staff who appeared to be antagonising my husband and I and our family members at the access and egress gates. Our lasting impression of this hotel is that of an extremely hostile, inefficient system which left us as paying Pearl Valley Hotel guests feeling vulnerable at the gate and victims of inefficient, antagonising, security personnel who appeared to be enjoying depriving us access or taking undue time to permit us access to the hotel premises. This ill treatment occurred on each and every interaction with them. When complaining about the security staff to various members of the hotel team - I was informed that there are “many complaints” about the security at the gates - “but nothing gets done”. Our family will never stay at the Pearl Valley Hotel again after the unpleasant experience dealing with Thornburn Security. Life is stressful enough without having to be antagonised on one’s holiday by irritating, inefficient security personnel who defeat the object of a welcoming and secure hospitality experience and environment.

This is a gorgeous property with 2 pools, tennis courts, golf course and a small bar/restaurant plus a much larger bar and restaurant area that was excellent. The rooms were spacious and very well furnished with a large bathroom and a bath with separate walk-in shower. A large balcony with lovely views was also fabulous. Overall, it was lovely, although we were perplexed why there was a full kitchen range and appliances but we were given a letter on arrival saying that none of this was working? It didn't affect us as we didn't intend to cook but it may affect others? The complex has access gate security and that's a bit of a pain to navigate each time you enter, where most places after the initial checks prior to check-in will let you through simply by showing your room key, here each time you re-enter you have to go through the whole process again. Irritating when you're on holiday and want to get on with your day. Another irritation was for some reason getting pool towels here was ridiculously difficult. On our first day, after unpacking etc we wanted to swim and unwind , we went to the smaller pool which was close to our room and asked for pool towels and were told they'd run out but he'd ask for some more....they never came. Day 2 at the larger pool, asked for towels and were told that they don't have them there, we have to get them from reception. So we go back over there, to be told they don't have any either! Gentleman on reception makes a call and 10 minutes later someone turned up with 2 towels. (What about the next guests?) It seems a hotel this big and this nice could easily sort this out? Are they really concerned that guests staying in this calibre of hotel are going to steal some cheap towels? Overall though this is a lovely hotel, with great facilities and a nice restaurant and bar set up and we would both return and recommend.

This hotel is an absloute beauty! Every morning i woukd sit on my balcony with my french press coffee and a cigar and just take the views of the mountains and the fresh air all in. My arrival and welcome were handled professionally, Bronwin made sure of that. It was a wonderful short stay that im sure has added a few years to my lifespan! Truly wonderful.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Pear Valley hotel. Location is good, 45 mins from the airport and 20 mins to the wine farms. We were there to play golf and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Our room was spacious and high quality with a lovely view of water with lots of ducks and birds around. We didn’t experience any of the difficulties mentioned about the gatehouse - entry and exit was easy. The main hotel restaurant has lots of different spaces and the varied menu worked at different times of the day. Breakfast was excellent, , sushi good for snacks or starters and lots of tasty mains. The restaurant staff were very friendly and good at what they do. Overall it was very good and would return for the hotel and the golf.

Loved the apartment we got. Very spacious with plenty of light. Rooms had air conditioning however common sitting area didn’t have air condition. There was a small spare room in the apartment which could have easily fit a washing machine and dryer and been converted to a laundry room. The kitchenette was fully equipped. Bathrooms were clean. Food at the restaurant was very nice and staff very friendly especially Rohan who went out of his way to ensure our food would be served on time to us. Set on a golf course and not far from many of the well known wineries

Third stay over the past few years and will definitely return. The service is top class and facilities are great. The only frustrating part is entry and exit which is both cumbersome and met with unfriendly security personnel who themselves seem confused about the process

The rooms are stunning - clean, well appointed with a full kitchenette, spacious, private, and lovely views. There are plenty of guest facilities to enjoy. We had a very relaxing stay. The hotel is unfortunately let down by the restaurants. We had a really awful dinner on the first night at Back’s, with undercooked, soggy chips and onion rings and thoroughly mediocre burgers. Breakfast at the clubhouse was great on both mornings, but not so for dinner on the second night - the food was okay, but service terribly slow despite being half full. Housekeeping staff could also use a bit of a refresher course on guest privacy. On the first evening, for turndown service, they quickly let themselves in after knocking once, which was very awkward for us - they didn’t even give us a chance to respond. On the morning we left, they were knocking down our door 45 minutes before checkout time despite the “do not disturb” sign on the door. These are just little things, but detract from what would otherwise be a five star experience.

The Mantis Hotel Group has consitently exceeded my expectations - this particular has simply reminded me why this group will always enjoy priority when searching for a hotel - General Manager: Mynhardt de Jongh clearly leafs from the front - the service is 5* + - the views are outstanding the facilities exceptionally clean and varied to accommodate most preferences - staff is always available to assist - a must visit for atleast 3 nights - will return.

One of the largest and nicest rooms (207) I have stayed in for some time. Clean, modern and everything you need. Great complimentary coffee. World class estate with so many facilities you can use. Backs Restaurant: Small but very affordable menu. Friendly staff. Valley Restaurant: You can eat about the same breakfast for almost half the price at “Backs” Negatives: Golf: This must be the in the top 5 most expensive courses in South Africa to play as a affiliated member. Not really catering for South Africans. As a very avid golfer, I am not willing to pay that fee. Even the discounted rate if you stay in the hotel is exorbitant. 2/10 Access to the estate is shockingly slow and ineffective, especially for hotel staying/returning guests. Every day the same procedure to gain access. Code only valid for 1-day. R40 for still water in a normal plastic bottle! Price: 6/10 Staff:9/10 Location: 9/10 Facilities: 9/10 Overall: 8/10 As the estate is so large, a map of the location of all the facilities would be great.
