酒店前身是一個莊園，有花園小橋和人工河流，環境非常優美。酒店也有娛樂設施，可以打乒乓球和桌球。食物方面稍為遜色，其他方面都很好。

Stayed here several times, even a couple of times when they had only just re opened following each of the Covid lockdowns and always enjoyed, had a fab welcome and the rooms are clean. Not saying its perfect for everyone as some of you will not be a fan of the gold and red decor in the rooms , reception and corridors. But its not shabby its just old fashioned. The bathrooms are moden and the bar and restaurant have had a face lift with a not ultra moden colour scheme of cream and blue but it suits the building style. Dont expect spa, gym or pool and dont expect room service or cocktails. But you will always get a warm and friendly welcome and service. The setting is off the beat and track , but worth finding this gem, at the side of the woods , with stream running over waterfall and rock oh and keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels. Food is good at breakfast though no veggie sausages which some did complain about, food is good value in the evening though a limited choice of 4 starters 4 mains and 4 puds including a veggie option. Yorkshire portions for the main and loads of veg. Bar prices higher than pub prices but not that bad for a hotel.

it was great to have a snooker table..they need to put a new cloth on. its old and tatty...xx

Second stay at shap wells hotel but this time we stayed in the family room and was very nice and the breakfast was just great

Quite a traditional old Cumbrian/Scottish Highlands type of hotel. It's convenient to the M6 but in the middle of nowhere. Ideal base for walkers or to explore the lakes. All the staff were friendly and really helpful. Our room was a decent size with a huge double bed and and a single. It was clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom and shower were also great. Breakfast was cooked to order and all tasted great, there was also a small we selection of cereals. There was free WiFi which was good enough to watch movies or play games on your tablet. Which was just as well as the TT v only had a couple of channels. We only stayed 1 night so easy an issue for us.

Lovely comfortable room, old but clean hotel with a lovely charm and beautiful surroundings. We had gone to enjoy a peaceful rare child free night away so we were disappointed by with the amount of noise coming from the next room, the people staying in there were up just before 5am and began banging around, shouting and generally being inconsiderate to other guests, this was not helped by the huge gap under our door which let extra noise in. The second complaint would be that clearers do not knock before entering, myself and my partner were getting dressed when one entered at just after 9am without warning (checkout is 11am) - i literally had to open the wardrobe door and stand behind it as i heard the door open or she'd have seen all I had!

This is a delightfully eccentric hotel that we used to use for Phil Soc events (Lancaster University) in the 70s and a lot is similar. These days it seems to be set up for coach parties and the restaurant reflects that but the food was good for the price. It was a little cold - I had a hot water bottle fortunately but had to refill it twice during the night ...

Quite a surprise to find this hotel. I have been travelling up and down the A6 and M6 for over 60 years & had never come across it before. A lovely place but the floors creaked a lot and the shower cubicle in our room was decidedly snug! I managed to get in and then the thought struck me: how do I get back out? I managed it, dear reader! Breakfast was great. overall, good value for money.

The art deco features were lovely. The staff were so kind and helpful. Our single rooms were small but had everything we could have wanted. Being such a huge place, with such history and off the beaten track it was lovely to hear that it has a high occupancy rate. We look forward to going back. If it is sold I hope the developers make the best use of the amazing features and staff.

I really liked this hotel! The interior is lovely, the breakfast room is huge and light and breakfast itself was great, and the staff were very helpful. There’s a bit of rough road to get to it, but it’s worth it.

We stopped here on the way back from a trip to Scotland. For an overnight stay it was fine. I dont think I'd want to stay for a few days. Restaurant menu basic and over priced but food OK (roast beef very good), puddings awful, bar prices very high. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Hotel in general felt old and tired but was clean and comfortable. Room was very warm. Much too warm, despite turning the only radiator in the room off. The 4 inch pipe along the bottom of the window was generating all the heat so we had the window open the whole time. Did the job for us and what we needed. I've stayed in far worse places but in many better.

The hotel was very remote and miles away from shops. The vicinity had amazing views. Friendly staff and a small room. Very clean !

Lovely relaxing stay, yes the hotel is old and if you have mobility issues it could be a problem, however the staff are so lovely and accommodating. We loved that the hotel had character and was very clean. We would definitely go back.
