We’ve visited this property in the past, as well as others in the Hilton family and always enjoyed our stays very much over the years.
This trip, however was one night & two days in the Old Port. A $500 room, a blaring fire alarm in our room going off at exactly midnight, the room filled with smoke and the two of us running to the front desk bleary-eyed and in shock. A fan was set up, we were told the smoke was due to my CPAP machine, and that the chemical odor we smelled was menthol from the machine. The engineer was insistent the machine was to blame, even though no menthol of any kind has ever been utilized, the humidifier plate was cold, as it is not used, and the hose was well connected. Neither of us slept, didn’t use the CPAP machine following this event and we left the property at 8am and cancelled our plans for the day as we and our belongings reeked of whatever it was that filled our room. The room next door also had smoke, not sure how it was remedied for them. We ran the CPAP machine for more than an hour as soon as we got home, and as we stated the night before, the machine was NOT at fault. So, we’re out more than $500, and what experiences we were able to enjoy during the day we checked in, were completely overshadowed by this event and we were left feeling embarrassed and frankly, ripped off. This was 5 days ago yet remain so angry about the experience!
