A little unique gem, such a lovely find and perfectly located. Owners make you feel welcome and had the best nights sleep. The gardens are amazing and the breakfast was wonderful. The location is perfect to walk to the harbours and centre of Portsmouth without moving your car which was an added bonus.

The fourth year in a row that we have stayed at this fantastic hotel. Together with friends we attend an annual dinner on board HMS victory in the dockyard. This year we booked all 6 rooms. The great rooms, bar and courtyard garden can all be seen on line in photographs. However, what the photos can’t possibly show is the incredible service which greets you from the moment you step through the door. Literally nothing is too much trouble for Ian and Alex. Alex even stepped in and took us to the dinner in his own car when our taxi was late!! Without a doubt the best boutique hotel I have ever stayed in!

My husband and I stayed at Ye Spotted Dogge last night, just for one night and it was fabulous. Alex and Ian were extremely welcoming, going the extra mile to ensure we had a wonder stay. The room was exceptional and filled with historic delights. I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel and we will definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful stay :)

What a delightful Inn. Our trip couldn’t have been any better. Wonderful hosts, beautiful room and a delicious breakfast every morning. Evenings in their cozy pub mingling with other guests and locals was an absolute delight. Ian and Alex really make it a five star experience. Ian even mailed a package for us. Beautiful back garden as well for warmer days.

Amazing find. Wonderful secret garden. Lovely ambience, good wine, great service. Loved it. Will be returning for drinks as no food on offer when we visited. Lovely. Thank you. I suggest some lovely little snacks be offered so it makes more of an evening out as after drinks ne needed to visi another establishment for food but gorgeous nonetheless

Wow wow wow - we had the most fabulous time. The hotel is absolutely stunning and the decor is a delight with so many beautiful things to admire. The property is steeped in history with many stories to tell. Ian was such a warm and friendly host - we were taken care of as soon as we walked through the door. Nothing was too much trouble and we were both made to feel very special. We went to the gorgeous bar for pre-dinner drinks. Ian shared the history of the property and showed us the dagger that had killed Buckingham. Ian's passion for the property and the history was very clear. The room was beautiful adorned with wonderful pictures, furniture and a large bath tub in the bedroom. It was beautifully clean with a full mini bar and china cups and biscuits. Everything had a special touch just stunning. Breakfast was outstanding. Everything was served on beautiful china in the dining room. The selection of food was fabulous - smoked salmon, cheese, ham, beautiful fresh bread and fruit - it really was 5** The location was within walking distance of all attractions. Gorgeous hotel! Our first trip to the area and it made such a good impression. The owner was super kind and polite, happy to chat when we came past. The rooms were immaculate and so so beautiful. Definitely worth the price. By far one of the best I’ve stayed in.

We had a most pleasant experience at Ye Spotted Dogge. A charming place, very well taken care of, beautifully decorated rooms full of history — the building dates back to the 1500s. Ian and Alex are amazing hosts, always ready to suggest a restaurant, a trip, or have a nice chat over drinks in their lovely bar about the historic events that took place there. Thank you!

Due to stay here in early March 2022 however received an email yesterday to say they’d now booked in maintenance work & the hotel will now be closed. My booking was made November 2021 & was part of a very special trip for us. If we had cancelled we would have lost our money however there was no offer of compensation, just that we would get a refund & they hoped to see us in the future!! Well, if you treat your customers like this, why would we book again? I would never be completely sure they wouldn’t cancel again. Be very aware of this happening to you, we feel like our booking was an inconvenience to them & albeit their reviews are very good, it’s why we booked in the first place, they actually don’t care that they cancelled our booking.
