派珀斯羅託魯瓦湖酒店(On the Point - Lake Rotorua)

We were there last month. It was the most expensive hotel I booked as it was the last day for the whole trip. Sadly it turned out to be the most disappointing one. The lake view lodge i booked was nothing like the photos they show on the website(Maybe they have different rooms for lake view lodge, but obviously we got the worst one). I thought the animal feeing would be fun, but nobody there offered animal food!!! So we ended up observing some anminals...such a downer!!! And what a waste of money for such an old hotel. It is definitely not a luxury experience.

Beautiful Lodge on the shore line of Lake Rotorua. The views from every part of the lodge are magnificent. On our first night we choose to eat in the restaurant and the food was 5 star for sure. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and all the staff were friendly and helpful. We would have loved to stay longer but our itinerary meant it was time to move on.

Started at 5 stars, even though we took our own luggage to the cottage next to the lake, (steep hill) first nights meal was fabulous, friendly staff, comfortable bed , second night was poor over cooked beef and chips, the final straw was the hot tub (which we didn’t use) deciding to have a maintenance cycle at 3.08am, waking us up. We told the receptionist when we left the following morning and she couldn’t care less, she was just keen to give us the bill. Very unprofessional which sadly ruined our stay.

It all started off very well. The room whilst being in a cabin on the edge of the garden was very pleasant and well equipped . The evening meal on the first night we were there was excellent and the very best meal we had had since we arrived in New Zealand. At this point, it was a five star review; unfortunately the dinner on the second night was not of the same standard as the first night. We ordered exactly the same meal. Perhaps it was a different chef, but it was a disappointment. In addition to this, the hot tub decided to perform a maintenance cycle at 3 o’clock in the morning which woke us up and made it very difficult for us to get back to sleep. Whilst this is disappointing, it didn’t seem to phase the reception when we paid our bill; the receptionist took little or no interest in the problems that we had had. One heck of a slope to pull the luggage up to the car!!

A gorgeous lake view and a welcoming smile greeted us when we arrived at this lodge. We were swiftly shown to our 2 bedroom lodge which had a stunning view out over the lake from one of the bedrooms. A washing machine and tumble dryer in one of the 2 bathrooms was a welcome sight and was soon put to good use! Dinner and breakfast were both very good. The only negative here is that one bedroom didn’t have air con so it was a bit too warm at night. If there was a plug in fan I didn’t find it. Plenty to do and see in the surrounding area but lovely to get back to the lodge for some down time.

We have stayed and dined at on the point previously and enjoy dining out at a variety of restaurants regularly. However, our recent dinner was world class. There were five dining and we all found our three course meals were exceptional and would be difficult to match anywhere else. The quality of ingredients, presentation, portion size and of course the actual taste of the food could not be faulted. (I should know having sampled everyone else’s along with my own) The prawn and scallop entree was delicious, the steak perfectly cooked, the chips best yet and the salmon skin - I would be happy with an entire plate of it. I strongly recommend taking the time to dine here, not just for the amazing food but the spectacular location also.
