Palm Court Motor Inn

We had a pleasant stay, but it seems the TripAdvisor score is much higher than matches the experience - I hope there hasn't been any 'optimisation' here to work on the score? (I know we stayed at another Asure motel - ASURE Prince Taupo, not here - and were offered a price discount if we'd give a good review, which we absolutely declined). At the time of writing this, Palm Court Rotorua is listed as #6 of all the motels in Rotorua, but we've stayed at a number of more up-market Rotorua motels and I wouldn't put this in the top echelon. We made a last minute booking aided by the Trip Advisor score but Palm Court Rotorua wasn't to the higher standard of the others we'd stayed. The kitchenette and bathroom in the unit we had were tired: of the places we stayed, this was the only place that didn't have a full set of cutlery, etc, missing sufficient knives/forks/spoons for the number of people, etc, and the kitchen could do with a proper clean. We got charged a high rate (assume due to high season, as we added a Rotorua stop as an afterthought during the peak holiday period) . But of all the motels we stayed this road trip, this was the lower quality and yet was one of the highest priced of our stays. It was a comfortable stay - even if a bit scrimpy on the towels - and we did enjoy the outdoor spa bath. Anyway, perhaps take the review score with a grain of salt, it's absolutely OK to book, just as long as you don't go in with expectations of being premium and you'll be fine.

Good location and facilities, however, was very disappointed to find a hair ball on the shower wall and unwanted hair floating in the spa bath. I had already run the bath then thought I’d rinse in the shower first, to find a very obvious hair ball. The manager assured me both had been cleaned but I wasn’t very convinced. He cleaned the bathroom for me, but as the spa was already full he said it was fine to get it (I saw the hair in spa water after he left).

I booked this motel cause of previous experience which was really good and for the private spas that me ND hubby were in need of. When we arrived the rooms are no where near as good as on the website. Our lights were flickering there was hair on the bathroom walls, shower drain was blocked worst of all the spa was cold and the owner wouldn't believe us he said he'll run the spa in nxt room but wouldn't put us in there. I booked the motel cause of the spa so this was a big disappointment. No where near as good as it use to even reception is not welcoming. Worst experience we had

Nice motel in a good location but needs a bit of love. Rooms good and big, good beds, spa area inside the room is looking tired, grounds untidy - bike wash area is a hose dropped in the pond? and a good ****ing of the gardens and seating area would help!

Rude and unwelcoming owner/operator. This motel owner works in the 'hospitality' sector but was far from hospitable. It would appear from other previous guests, I am not the only one who has dealt with the discourteous treatment. Would not stay here again!

- Baby-Unfriendly Accomodation. Would NEVER stay here again - We were visiting with a group of friends (a couple with a 6-month old baby) and were horridly asked to leave this accomodation over a soiled bedsheet. My friend’s baby had by accident soiled a bedsheet (with a small stool leakage from her nappy) on our first night of accomodation here. The mother asked at reception (met by EDITH YAN- the owner of the property) if she could have the sheets changed. Immediately, Edith expressed anger and responded with NO and that they were required to clean sheets. Upon questioning Edith regarding how to do this (i.e laundry facility, products, place to hang for drying), she was met with deterring and incomplete answers with a growing frustrated demeanour. Upon hearing this escalation of a somewhat straightforward task, my friend’s husband became involved to assist with finding the correct solution. Edith then began hurling personal remarks about my friends parenting capabilities with “you should take better care of your baby” and “ you should know better to take ALL precautions when travelling”. She refused to change the sheets and heatedly walked off from the situation. Having their integrity questioned and such personal attacks, my friend’s husband then followed her to which Edith locked her reception door on him and said she will call the police. My friend knocked on the door (agreed with some frustration at this point) to which Edith left and did not respond. Given this couple are both doctors, they are well aware what is required to look after a baby and unfortunately accidents like this do happen. My friends did clean the sheets as a result. However, Edith and her husband Yue came back about an hour later to say my friends must leave immediately and she has called the police because she believed they were being aggressive towards her and were demanding for the sheets to be changed. We were taken aback and I tried to rationalise but this was futile. We packed our things and I requested a refund as we were supposed to be there for another 3 nights. Edith REFUSED to give me a refund for my friends room for those 3 nights and only offered one for the other room we had booked. Given such a small accident, NEVER have we been kicked out of any accomodation and this was a situation that escalated unnecessarily with a lack of compassion and understanding. We will never stay here again and DO NOT recommend this accomodation in Rotorua (especially if you have a baby).

My husband and i stayed whilst attending a conference and the hosts were both amazing and took the time to have a chat and find out why we had travelled to Rotorua and what line of work we were in. Enjoyed coming home to the room clean and warm and the spa was amazing. Thank you both for the hospitality will definitely come back in future.

Theo owner is super friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately the room left a lot to be desired. The shelf in the kitchen was riddled with dead bugs and the blinds were thick with dust. The spa pool was very loud so we didn't enjoy it as much as we had hoped. The decor could use a fresh lick of paint to brighten it up.

Firstly, NO AIRCON! We were ok as the weather was pleasant but not a warm weather stay at all. Water heated radiator for cool times. Very Clean but quite dated interior. Tapware is needing to be replaced. Roomy with a spa in courtyard which looked a bit bare and sad. Used it as a bath not spa. TV remote a bit dodgy. 2 GREAT lounge chairs to relax in, ( think gold class) . Needs aircon to be worth the $200 plus a night…
